Second impressions....similar to other members. This truck drives like it should have from day one.

Throttle is much more linear. 04b10 was herky jerky throughout the RPM range, with like different stages of power depending on RPMS. Now it just builds RPMS and constantly increases power with higher RPMS.

3500 RPM "powerband" is muted greatly. Does not feel like there is less power just that it gets there more linearly.

1 to 2 shift is unbelievably better. It is just as natural as all other gears now. I can not fathom how a tune affects this but it does. Other members are spot on with this.

Mid RPM power/torque feels better??? not sure if this is possible either , but stomping the throttle in the 2000 rpm range just feels more responsive. May be placebo, but others have noted this as well.

I will test DFCO (skeptical this changed) and Mountain Pass power tomorrow.

So far no regrets. And what an embarassment that it took Toyota this long to remedy this.

And for those on the fence about updating. I bet the entire process took less than 10 minutes. I was sweating bullets for those ten minutes but it was fast.

I took my car for 10k service today. I requested to have the chime turned off and the update. They turned off the chime but they said the update was only for automatic. I explained to them that it was also for manual but they didn’t believe.

OK. That is what I was guessing. There were several codes that were flashing in the instrument panel during the flash, but once it was done and I started it up there was nothing. Should I open up techstream and check, or is this normal for it to show after an update?

I've not run the flash yet.... But there's no harm in running a DTC check, but any OBD II scanner would be able to do that. If there's no Check Engine Light, the only thing you might see is stored codes.

I just emailed the dealer in Palm Springs to see if they’d play ball and help me out. I’ll report back when they get a hold of me.

Got more miles on the truck and it continues to impress. downshifts from highway speeds are even improved. I am surprised that Toyota let 04B10 out on the production line. it was bad. I noticed a change/improvement to the rev hang, but I have not noticed an improvement to engine braking for those who have been asking. Only an improvement in how the truck decelerates- it's a lot smoother throughout the bands.

The ultimate test was my friend who has only ridden in my truck ONCE (and it was last week) rode again with me today and after the first few stop-go's and getting onto the highway he commented that the truck felt smooth compared to last time and that it seemed to be running better/accelerating better. He asked what I did to the truck, thinking performance parts...

So yes. if you haven't done this update you need to. Also, I refueled and with 87 gasoline I am now getting a consistent 19.5 mpg on my highway trips... formerly I was lucky to get 16mpg. Used the same gas/gas station... Thats WITH a roof top tent and a RCI mid height rack.

Yeah lol, you always get a gong show of error messages while flashing - brake/override, low oil pressure, and of course the charge one. Normal, happens every time. Glad u got it done. Enjoy!

Just got back from a 1,300 mile road trip. Averaged 18.1 MPG on the stock tune. What'd I miss? Guessing this still isn't widely available yet.

The vast majority of MT owners are getting shot down at the dealerships and needing to do the update on their own. It is a pretty simple process to follow and definitely improves how the truck drives if you have that ability.

My dealer was so caught up on the "Automatic" wording they wouldn't listen to anything I said....

That's how they are here. I just said run the Health check and install the update. He said it wouldnt work since it's for an automatic. He just came out to say "looks like the truck will take the update. Once we do this we can't undo it" I told him to go for it

I am gonna ask if I get my money back when Toyota realizes the error in their ways and fixes this "typo" in their release.

It also seems obvious that if the truck takes the update, it was meant for the truck right?

Yes. The 04B12 ECU listed in the TSB is MT only. The TSB CUW also covers the 04B10 and 04B11 ECUs. Those are MT only also, not listed in the TSB, but are shown in the header text of the CUW file.

Just a huge mix up on the release.
