they're at the top of wrong, though. because the team as a whole was MVP, sure. give the whole team the trophy, but position vs position the bama RBs that won didn't even have the best rushing stats the years they won. that's why its controversial. Alabama could've won without those RBs (with others as replacements obviously) because of how good the O lines always are, but the RBs aren't MVPs.

it just irks me that Defensive players never win. Tyrann Mathieu was the biggest playmaker in football his one successful year.

Just to jump ship to the NFL real quick, but along the same lines, Peyton Manning should have won the 2011 MVP... I mean if it went to the player with the greatest impact on their team... He was out all season and Indy went from 10-6 to 2-14. That's a big impact. :D

By these stats (2015 only), explain why DH didn't deserve it. He single handedly won 3 games for us with 200+ rushing yards in each against SEC defenses. Granted one was MSU and we won 31-6 he went 22 car 204 yards 2 TD against MSU, 38 car 210 yards 3 TD vs LSU, 47 can 271 yards 1 TD vs AU, then went 44 car 189 yards 1 TD vs FLA in SEC Championship. Not to take anything away from McCaffrey at all he had a stellar year.

The only stats Derrick Henry wins are Games played (because Alabama won), attempts (because of more games), and yards (also because of more games).

Sorry, but average yards per carry and yards per game mean more to me, which he loses both of those to Fournette.

Not to take away from Henry who is/was a beast, but if you have a record breaking season... a Barry Sanders Record Breaking Season... that carries some weight. 3864 AP Yards!!

I agree with that for sure, that's a hell of a record to break. Not gonna lie either, I would have loved to see Derrick Henry's big 240+ lb ass return punts and kicks just to see the possible carnage he could have left behind him, lol

you avoid commenting back to mine....tis because I'm right?

also that year specifically is a perfect example....would Stanford have been anything without McCaffrey? no way. would Bama be without Henry? yep.

Haha I actually didn't see it. But again, Fournette was a beast as well but I think Guice would have stepped in and done just as well as him for LSU. We had Kenyan Drake. I loved Drake and still do and think he's a great back at the Dolphins. But he was 100% different than Henry. He was a scat back that could be arm tackled due to his size. Bama would not have been the same team without Henry, period.

I didn't say they'd be the same. I said they would have been something. They would have been ok, they would've won games. Stick Guice behind bama's O-line, or Fournette and they do the same things Henry does (Fournette better actually because statistically he averaged better behind LSU's crappy line).

The point wasn't Fournette over Henry. The point was Henry had worse stats than Fournette and McCaffrey, aside from more games played = more attempts = more yards.

McCaffrey should've won it that year without a question. MVP on offense and special teams for Stanford, breaking records left and right, but....he wasn't on primetime, and his team wasn't winning as much as Bama.

Oh yea, its an unspoken fact that PAC12 players don't get the attention due to the times they play. Also, the PAC12 for the most part has been rather soft over the past few years and hasn't really deserved the attention the other power 5 conferences have received.

I agree, but even with them being soft that doesn't take away from what he was able to do. That's really the only year I had a major issue with. Ingram def didn't have as much competition against him and I could see the reasoning behind choosing him.

I would've liked to have seen Henry go against Alabama's D-line with only LSU's O-line to block. LOL. So many times I've heard how Fournette got shut down blah blah blah, and nobody blames LSUs line. "Fournette is trash" yada yada. All BS that year.

Yea, I can gladly say I never was a shit talker about Fournette, I actually always liked him and still do.

Also, may I add that I love how this thread has picked up as of late. Just means that fooseball season is so close!

just gotta wonder why a team can't get two players the caliber of Fournette/Henry.

Can you imagine that dual backfield??? Would put the McFadden/Jones "best backfield" to shame haha. who cares if you have a QB...

Players these days seem to want all the credit/play time or none. McFadden/Jones and Carnell Williams/Ronnie Brown are the only ones that I can think of that were really as close to a 50/50 split of the carries and shared the limelight so well!

Bama and LSU have had stud RBs in the same back field at the same time but they just didn't have the aforementioned hype that the others had.

For sure. I mean heck Guice/Fournette were both amazing but LSU doesn't do the dual back setup unless it's a FB. Same with Alabama. Now I love seeing a big ass FB mow some folks down.
