The instrument panel messages are different than trouble codes. I checked my trouble codes with Techstream after I flashed and didn't find any related to the update.

I have emailed Toyota service about this issue. I referenced the specific TSB and explained that the header states automatic models, but MT ECUs are listed (and provided said ECU codes in the email) which has lead to a varied response from dealers ranging from providing the updates, to charging for them, to outright denying them. Hopefully I'll hear back from them soon.

How much you want to bet that the person writing up the TSB doesn't even know or care that there are MT Tacoma out there. Probably a template and AT is the default entry. I had a technician get in my truck and exclaim that he didn't realize they still made them....sad

Good job dude. When the case manager from corporate calls me tomorrow to follow up on my rear diff debacle I may mention it to him also. Keep us posted if you hear back.

I just made an appointment at the dealership for next week. The Service Manager and I agreed that half an hour of shop time is fair to hook it up and take any updates that are available.

I'd rather give them their $50 to do it than spend hours trying to convince them that the TSB applies and they should do it for free.

I got mine updated to B1300 from B1200. I was able to get the dealership to do it. It took some conversation and some explaining and showing the update on TechStream, but the guys I went to are good guys to work with! Truck drives great and the low end power/Throttle curve response has increased and its a pleasure to drive now under 2,000 RPM. It is a very worth while update to get done.

Scheduled to go in for a service tomorrow. I mentioned it to the service rep and he seemed receptive. So thats a start, I'll keep everyone updated.

Then enjoy your truck and let all the other people fix their troubled trucks. That way you won’t screw yours up.

Anyone around Salem or Portland OR that have had luck with a dealer or happens to have a cable that they'd be willing to share?

Will the version of techstream that OV tune uses work on windows 10?

Flashing OV Tune doesn’t use techstream, it has its own flashing software. But I have both techstream and OVTune software running on cheap windows 10 laptop.

tbLWX1RcTQ686Crk%EJMSg.jpg Got the update to work on my 2016. Used the T-0033-18.cuw file and it flashed successfully. Is the T-0037-18.cuw file for newer trucks? I think it was discussed already but I can't find the discussion on the 2 different files.
Truck does respond a lot nicer. Drove it around the neighborhood for about 10 miles and seemed pretty good. Starts out in 1st smoother and transitions into 2nd smoother. I'll probably take it out tomorrow up a mountain range with sharp and steep corners. I use to hate how un responsive 2nd gear was on an incline going up the mountain. Seems like this update might fix that a little from how it drove around the neighborhood. Will know for sure once I drive it more. I have an 1 1/4 inch bigger tires and that definitely took some power away with that previous stock tune.

It has worked great. I do notice that from a rolling stop 2nd gear 1,200 RPM, it just takes off. Reminds me of my old 22R motor in my Toyota pickup. Also fuel MPG on the highway seems a little better as I was getting 22.4 MPG last night on my way home though the mountains running 70-75. About a 25 mile drive. It did take a little getting used too based on the throttle response. I will have more, and better data this weekend, I will be doing a 650 mile drive into SC.

Have you tried to make a appointment with Malloy Toyota in Winchester? They seem to be a good group of guys in the back, I had some work done there before I moved south.

That’s my plan once I get my truck back. Warrenton Toyota told me to screw off basically. They are fixing my 2nd rear diff leak at the moment. I won’t go back there again.

I plan on going to Malloy from now on for any work. They may be more willing to listen.
