They’re stock size bro, they’re actually smaller than the stock 265/70/16 that come on off-roads.

ain't no problem. i can get them at Discount Tire. sometimes they do me right on price, sometimes not. but my history with them is good across probably 8 or so vehicles.

and yeah @gulzeb, I'm the guy who runs STMaxx in stock size. take a ride with me sometime and you'd find out why i like E range in a smaller form factor. :D

Got mine (255/85R16) from Discount Tire (America's Tire in CA) for $223 a pop...few bucks more than I found them on fleabay and Amazon but that price includes getting them mounted and balanced and all that good stuff. Didn't want to order them from Amazon just to save a few dollars and then have to pay a shop however much to get them put on.

They're pricey tires but they're worth every penny so far...haven't gotten to hit any dirt yet though but I'm excited to. Got mine in E rated too, they feel just as stiff on the street as my E rated KO2s did but I expect that from an E rated tire. They hold up offroad so much better than the Cs.

Also debated on whether or not I should order a 5th one to have a matching spare...but decided against it. I ordered a 5th KO2 back when I got those tires last year and it's just sat in the bed of my truck unused the entire time...not worth the extra money IMO unless you do 5 tire rotations. Just gonna find a same size used tire or otherwise cheap one to run as a spare.

They’re not much heavier than 285’s. I probably shouldn’t have looked that up :anonymous:

I'm at an impasse guys. Do I got for the 255 skinnys or the slightly bigger than stock 265/75r16? I don't really do anything that justifies 33s, and the 265s would certainly require less if any trimming and perhaps a little better MPG, etc to make work on 4" BS wheels... But 33s :D

The stiffness of E tires in a 33 vs a 265/75 is what I am really trying to decide on.

    Not Maxx's , but.....

I had 265/75r16 Goodyear Duratracs for a couple years. Since went to 285/75r16 Cooper STT PROs.. Been on them almost 2 years. The PROs are better tires....but size wise....? I had ALMOST as much ground clearance...3mpg better mileage, and the 265s fit without any cutting.

May see 265s on the Tacoma again when I finish building my Land Cruiser.

    Then again....bigger tires LOOK good.

Yeah that's why I would go 255 instead of 285. Not nearly as much stuff to cut out, and some report near 0 MPG hit on the skinnies.

Plus Coopers run big, so a 265/75 cooper is 32" even, so its a little bigger than your average 265/75 at 31.6" ...I may have just answered my own question.

A few observations.... not hard/fast rules...more broad strokes generalizations

With the right wheels, 285s aren't the rubbing issue some would lead you to believe.

Not a huge difference between them and 255s when the truck is flexed (off road) Most people I know personally who've ran 255s off road have done CMC by need.

Tire diameter can/will change slightly dependent on rim width.

Tire WEIGHT effects mileage as much or more than width or diameter.

If I did little or no off roading, 265s would be my choice with no reservations.

Pretty much confirms my thoughts. The stuff I do is mostly burly fire roads and service roads, and hauling ass through the Utah deserts semi-prerunner style. "Crawling" has never been my thing, so finding my self at full stuff, etc is pretty unlikely. Plus with Utah's barren vastness, it takes a lot of miles to get to a lot of places so MPG concerns are forefront.

Sounds like 265/75r16 is in my future.

A friend made a deal with Big O to trade straight across his oem spare for a big 0 branded AT tire matching his new 265/75s. You might be able to make that happen.

I have the 265’s, I like them. I do wish they were a hair taller, but 255’s are too skinny for my taste. Once these burn up I might go to 285.
