Glad you did, because I wasn’t going to share your reddit name. Mine is too easy to guess. Haha.

I just was browsing and boom, saw the story and put two and two together.

    Edit: the link at least.

I have P2S...two fobs and a tailgate key...tailgate key is basically useless to me since the 2018 fob key works on the tailgate.

What do you mean the 2018 keyfob works on the tailgate?? When I lock it, the tailgate is not powered. Am I missing something?

When the dealer was doing my preflight/delivery, they specifically said I needed to use the separate tailgate key, not the fob key...for 2016-17 models, that would've been accurate. I'm of the "trust but verify" mentality most of the time, so I was like "let's see"...

EDIT: '17's can use the fob key as well...

I had similar issues getting a second key for my 2017. The truck was a dealer trade. The sending dealer sent the truck with one key then couldn't find it later.
Sales guy didn't know shit about how the key process worked at his dealership. Sent me in to get the free key. I show up. Sales guy isn't there. Has me meet someone else in the dealership. Walks me over to the parts counter to have them give me a key. Of course nothing is ever stocked these days so it has to be ordered. It comes in the next day. I go back. "oh, the key guy only shows up on Thursdays". They outsource all key services to a third-party guy in a van. I show up the third time and the key guy is there. I stand over him while he cuts a new key and programs it to the truck. I tell the guy to make sure he clears all keys and starts over. I didn't want the lost key to ever be used against me.

Total process took me a month.

WTF - I went home with two sets of keys - normal right? About a week later, I noticed the other key's tag said 2017 Rav-4 XLE and of course did not work in my ignition. No biggie, called the dealer and they were relived LOL, so I mailed it back at there expense and they mailed my a new key since they could not find me a extra. All free except my time of 30 seconds of calling them :rofl:.

The 2017 P2S keyfob key also locks and unlocks the tailgate. It is my understanding that was not the case with 2016.

With my 2017 I got 2 fobs and 1 plain key. All the physical keys work the tailgate and door.

I believe the 16s needed a seperate key, 17's could use FOB key, and 18's can use the FOB without needing to use key.
Edit: 18s can use FOB key, not powered.
