https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3n_lf2RHIPs This is the video that I used. For some reason the way this guy explains things works for my brain. I had watched some others like The Wyo tech video. That lost me. Read some really complicated methods as well. In the end the guy in the videos “cheater bar “ method made it click in my head. His style migh not be for everyone. But if your new to bending check it out.

Of course man! My pleasure. Fabbing is super fun. Being able to take raw materials and turn them into something useful is one of the greatest feelings ever. You get a lot of satisfaction out of it

Also, if you decide you really like it and wanna do more with it, you can get a cheap version of bendtech software for your PC at home. You can easily make custom parts in the program, type in the dimensions you want, and it spits out the exact numbers for you.

Where to bend at, how many degrees to bend to, how much tubing you need for the part, etc...

There’s a version of the program for like $129 that you can do up to 6 bend parts which is usually more than any hobby fabricator will do in a single part.

Bought my ranger 250 for side work. Literally just get dumb messages like fixing a $40 BBQ pit, welding an exhaust hanger on a car, etc.

Was expecting bigger jobs like fencing, handrails, entrances, etc.

May just sell the 250 and buy a mig at this point cause apparently there’s more money to be made off it :frusty:

It always takes some time to build a customer base while you build your reputation !!

    Mower deck rebuilding

    Garbage truck floors dumpster floors

People wanting the impossible Aluminum welded to Stainless after all both are metal.

Then you never know when these type of jobs lead to a gold mine.

Then depending the population in your area you might know everyone within 50 miles already .

Gotta start somewhere! As much as I generally don't care for him, Chuckee2009 on youtube actually had a decent video on running a small welding business (was awhile ago though). Some good things in it to save grief down the road.

2” deep AR500 plug welds for the last 4 days is getting old. 475* preheat in 100* weather is getting older. The 100%CO2 shield gas on this procedure just straight brings the suck!CDE4685E-8A30-453E-96EE-FD26137BD11C.jpg

Absolutely this, my dad started an equipment business in 2014 as a side hobby, last year I left the application process with a great PD in another state because of my Grandpa's health and moved back to where I was from, Dad and I decided to take the business seriously and bought a Cat 289D CTL and a mulching head for it and started advertising for land clearing and dirt work, I the last month we've had 3 customers that we have done work for that know people that need the work we do and recommend us, one of the customers has decided to use us for clearing all of their land as well as doing the prep work for a trailer and eventually their homesite (My dad literally met this customer on a plane when he was flying back from his "real" job), you never know which "little" job you do will open doors.

    What don`t you like about the 100% CO2 ??

Just be glad the preheat and between pass temp is not a 1000 degrees .

Once the air temperature is over 65 degrees it is to hot for me

The CO2 mixed with the humidity and Ultracore E91-T1 (Hyundai) filler wire you are fighting cracking all day long. This equipment is still under warranty so we have to use the manufacturers spec filler wire that we know doesn’t weld well with our humility levels here. We typically use tri mix shield gas and an Esab filler to prevent the cracking issues.

Our shovel buckets are 24 hours 1000* pre heat 36 hour post heat on all structural repairs. Our repair shop is usually some where between 95-120* ambient temp and the doors are kept shut in the bucket repair bay to keep the air stagnant and shield arc flash. Fume hoods, forced air respirators and 12 hours of weld/peen/weld/peen makes for a long day.

Hell I love it... if I’m not bitchin’ about it I’m sick or something lol
Problem we are having is the fact that there are not enough new welders and millwrights coming up to replace us old dogs as we get up in age. The ones we do get are to chicken shit to walk the iron and monkey around on structure. If this world doesn’t start raising men again we are gonna be in a bind. There is some things you just can’t do from a video screen.

Yup. Everyone is feeling it. I've since moved indoors from pipe welding into aerospace work. I had some big injuries and had to make a long term move while I still could. But we do a lot of custom fab aerospace tubing for jet engines and kids come out of school thinking a two year degree is there ticket to getting paid, meanwhile they can't even light up an OA torch, nevermind use one.

I feel you on the injuries. I am going to have to slow my ass down in the near future. Bad shoulder and 3 ruptured disks in my neck. I pretty much live on coffee, cigarettes and anti inflammatories now a days.
