Well.. we had a Guy in a SUV get sandwiched between a pickup and an Armored truck... the armored truck drove through the bed of the pickup in front. Needless to say that occupant was entrapped, and they died in my Trauma bay. Now that's a lot different than what you're talking, but to the OP, just get you a bumper you like. It's not going to affect the safety features as much as you think it would. Most aftermarket bumpers utilize the factory mounting locations/brackets to the frame.... the frame behind the bumped is still designed to crumple and fold like an accordion, your engine is designed to drop out and the cab is meant to be rigid.

I can’t imagine welding a steel plate closer to the mount will cause that much of a significance in a crash.

At that point I probably have other issues.

A front hitch is still going to put metal up front and replace/interfere with the crash bar. Might as well throw some more steel up front and do a bumper. It'll protect you in low speed incidents and not matter at higher speed.

Well, yes indeed it could. As I said, anecdotal evidence only, not statistical.

Did they say what speed they did the offset collision at?

Yeah - that's a bit ridiculous! The bumper is like 30% of the front profile.

Yup, there's always that one horror story. Doesn't matter what kind of vehicle it is.

ARB’s “crush can” impact absorbers for their bumpers are rated pretty high, has anyone tested theirs?

35 mph partial offset. Ive seen the 4Runner video. The body mount clearly can bee seen deflecting the tire and wheel down and away.

Everyone has to remember this... every wreck we are talking about is 45 mph and below. There is a reason there are no high speed crash tests - nobody survives them.

If you are going 60 mph, look down at a text message and hit a bridge abutment at 60 mph, it does not matter. You are gone. If you go through the median at 60 and bleed off speed and then glance off the guardrail and then hit the bridge, that's a different matter. You have dissipated enough energy to survive the crash and all the safety features did their job. Not directed at you lol.

Hahaha no worries man, most don't pick up on it.

My dad was USAF Crash Fire Rescue for 30 years, he retired in Feb and is now a DOD Civ Fire Chief for the USAF lol. I'm the only guy in my family NOT a fire fighter, my dad made me do something else, guess he got tired of the family being all FF's.

I'm the opposite. I come from a long line of farmers. Decided I wanted to be rich so I went and got a bachelor's in business admin. Graduated in 07 just in time for the economic downturn and nobody was hiring. Joined the fire department because I needed a job with steady work. It was a 5 year plan won't end.

Well there is that plate bumper impact thread, I think there are a few arb collisions in there. This one here is the worst I’ve seen; usually the arb will hold up real good.

My '06 ranger had both airbags go off (100%) if we're grading it that way lol...

Approximately 30-45 mph front end collision. Old lady crossed the lines and smashed into my driver side corner/wheel. I saw it coming went to swerve right, a truck was illegally parked and I couldn't get over. I stood on the brakes and stalled 'er out.

Walked away minor injuries, airbag did a number on my arm though (typical stick driver, one hand at 12 the other on the stick) lol

All factory, still had enough force to crack the knuckle and my wheel ended up under my truck. Severely doubt a steel bumper would of changed much of the impact to me, but it definitely would of completely obliterated that dodge neon that hit me....
