I don't know if they will last as good as a Ford and I'm almost positive it won't be as trouble free as my Toyotas were but I like the body style and design of the GMC trucks the best out of any truck out there. Even so I like my '17 body style better than the new ones. The front looks good on the '19 but I'm not sure about the back yet:

Yeah... they had a new one inside the showroom, and the back looked "funky".

MEH... I'm sure it could have been better if we knew how to negotiate better, but the Mrs had a number in mind that she was willing to pay because the car was fully loaded, and even with 42k miles on it, so as long as she's happy I don't give a flying you know what.

The new trucks all look wonky because of the aero stuff they're doing.

Aha, spare time...never enough of it.

They do, but unless you have the arctic package, they don't retain heat very well at all. When I go to Maine in October, I usually use the heater first thing in the morning just to get the chill out of the air, beyond that it's not really doing much. Still just have to layer up pretty good at night (which is fine with me, I love sleeping in the cold).
I don't camp beyond October because I try to keep the camper out of the salt. My camper is cheap, so I'm sure the frame wouldn't fare well against salt. It needs to be touched up as is, which is sad considering the use it's seen.
Do you have the arctic package on yours?

I have the heater, but by all means none of the external pipes are wrapped or anything so my guess is no on that. The larger ones also get insulated and heated tanks.

They fixed pretty much everything I've always hated about GM trucks in this generation.

I don't like their engine lineup, though. The 5.3 is a pig, the new 2.7 isn't quite capable enough (I special ordered my Ford 2.7 with 3.73s to get the ratings up a bit, I felt with 3.55s it was a little low and the GM 2.7's max is lower than that), and the 6.2 is only an option if you spend big money on one of the highest trim levels. Also transmissions--why not just put the 10 speed in everything and be done with it?

I love my new truck but miss my Tacoma
Most cars and trucks used to have only a 3 speed transmission and when they went to 4 speeds it was a BIG deal! No reason to have more than 5 or 6 gears in the trans in my opinion, more than that it seems like it's for manufacturers bragging rights. I personally would rather have my trans locked up and make the engine pull rather than shifting ALL the time.

    My 10-speed skips gears in normal driving, so I'll often see something like 1 - 3 - 5 - 6 - 8 - 10. I don't notice it shifting around a lot.

Tow-haul mode always uses them all, so it's entertaining to accelerate and have it shift every few MPH like a big rig. I think that's where the big advantage comes in.

    Too much.
Any third gen folks get the TSB for the transmission? Where did you get it done? Did you get any pushback? 40mph-60mph is an absolute deadzone for acceleration during my commute.

Seconded. It's part of what lets a turbo'd 2.7 haul like a much bigger engine; with all of those gears to pick from the transmission can keep you in the power band regardless of speed (theoretically, if they've got it mapped correctly). Same as a 21 speed mountain bike.

Nobody ever uses all the gears on a 21 speed mountain bike. That's why they don't make them anymore

Everyone complains about the 5.3 but I love this motor, it's been awesome so far. I get much better mileage than my Taco did and tons more power.

The 5.3's seem like they're all over the map. My dad's '04 has one and it has plenty of power, over 150k and doesn't have any issues. A girl I know has one with over 300k in her Tahoe (2006?) and same thing; still tons of power and zero issues.
On the other hand, all I hear about them is how oil-thirsty they are. But, to be fair, these are both pre-MDS motors, and most of the issues seem to involve the MDS trucks. :notsure:

11 speed mountain bikes are the new standard

On a different note. Foxboro has the car show both this week (tonight) and next. Anyone going?
