3rd Gen Owners with King Coilovers

Nope, didn't have to do any shock relocating or welding. I got my shocks and UCA's from Camburg and then I ordered the leaf kit from rogue-off road. If you call them up and tell them what your looking to do they are super helpful and will be able to set you up with exactly what you need. I couldn't be happier with my truck and the way it looks / performs.

 

I'm in the same boat as you, I'm want to throw some OEM shocks on the front and rear and I'm not trying to get much more than maybe 1 inch above stock height on my 18' Taco. I'd rather not change the UCAs or leaf springs on my truck.

Has anyone just bolted the OEM Kings that dont require any UCAs and had any problems with alignment? I'm planning on going .5" or 1" above stock height. Which is techinally a 1.5" to 2" lift (stock 18' Tacos have 1" of lift if im correct?). Says front OEMs can go up to 2" and rear is 1.5" without UCAs or Leafs.

I really just want a smoother ride on bumpy open dirt roads and potholes/dips and for my truck to look clean

 

Yes you can buy non-extended travel shocks. For the front it will already come at a 1 inch lift, anything over 2 inches is when it’s recommended to install UCA. For the rear you can run stock leaf springs and you will be pretty close to being leveled. If you later plan to going with a 2-3 inch lift for rear leaf springs, purchase the extended travel shocks.

 

I talked to Ben at Filthy Motorsports. He only sells the deavers as far as I know and he said you need a shock relocation with rear lift. I see many people with the ome springs and no relocation. I was also looking at ads and Marie at Headstrong said there is no relocation requirement for theirs with ome. Its very confusing. Just want around 2" lift but don't want to do any welding.

 

Did you extend your rear brake lines? I’m putting the same setup on today.. looks good!

 

You can get dakar leaf pack (EL095R X2) which will give you a 2 inch lift, you only do a relocation if you are trying to put a 10 inch or longer shock.

Yeah unfortunately I scheduled a dentist appt at noon today but then I can finish what I started late yesterday (front drivers side only, and added superbumps), looks killer so far!

 

So I did a lot of legwork on this question when I was sourcing all my parts. You *CAN* run the non-ext rears, but they will limit travel, and it was recommended to limit strap it as a precaution. That said, just buy the extended version. I got the rears for a screaming deal off a friend so I had to work with what I had.

 

I have been looking at them. They seem to be of high quality

 

what coils are you running? how much preload do you have? I have the similar weight up front, just trying to decide on 650# or 700# coils.

I’m running 700#’s. I have about 13 threads on the drivers side and about six on the passenger.

It’s a bit stiff, but I don’t mind it. I think I’ve got the clickers adjusted about right for a daily driver. However, I lost count of where there set at.

ya I have a hybrid bumper up front, about 110lbs, winch w/synthetic line, ~80lbs, front skid 30lbs, sliders, I run a RTT and such.......I have the 600# coils showing about 13 threads driver, 11 driver........but if im hitting big bumps where there is a quick drop, they top out, so im deciding if I should go 650# or 700# coils so I can pull down the preload.......im assuming that the less preload allows for more droop?

 

I would go with 7’s, if I were you.

I’m no expert, but I would say since your compressing the spring you would be limiting the droop.

Are you planning to remove your sway bar? I would if I were you. The stiffer springs helps ease the body roll. Well worth it to take the sway bar off.

 

I also run the 700's and have been told it feels pretty soft.

 

Who is in Oregon, specifically around Portland who wants to install front and rear Kings for me for free, in trade of my Bilstein 5100's kit.

 

Sway bar has already been taken off.........so go with the 700# with what I have on the truck..........my RTT is on my bed rack, would that add weight to the front or just the back? I just don't want to do this coil change again and be out more money lol
