Look up my "name" and will see pictures with catch can and the custom bracket I have designed and had it made by BAMF.
Also I have removed the white insulation under the plastic intake cover on top of the engine for a cooler air intake. So far I have a more constant MPG of 19.XXX to 20.XXX on a 20 mile drive.

Separates oil from air that returns to the intake.

the pcv valce puts dirty crankcase air back into the intake manifold. over time this leaves deposits on valves, etc. and
they need to be cleaned. the catch can filters out the oil mist before the pcv air gets to the manifold.
this is most useful when each cylinder has an injector since no combustion fuel flows over valves, ie deposits
can build up. the V6 (and likely the I4) has injectors for each cylinder so it is useful.
get a can with a view tube to tell you how full it is. it needs to be emptied now and then.

edit: change " no combustion air" to "no combustion fuel" - braino.

After learning this, I'm surprised something like this isnt standardized during production. I mean, it doesnt look very expensive to add.

i just read my post. "no combustion air" should be "no combustion fuel".
combustion air obviously flows over valves

as far as why not standard - i have seen explanation that it is hard enough to get average consumer to change their oil regularly, let alone empty this thing. you need to be conscious to have one of these installed.

Fully aware of the need for a can on a direct injected engine, but I thought with the additional port injection feature on the Taco, a can would not be needed. Hmmm?

This looks like a very professional install and kit. Is this available for sale to the rest of us?

interesting. i am new to these engines so my answer is general. what port injection feature are you talking about? info/links? is the purpose to solve what catch can solves?
would be nice to know catch can not needed on these engines.

catch can cleans up the pcv air passing over the valves. it does not clean the fuel passing thru the injectors.
i'm waiting to hear from gurneyeagle about port injection that may be more beneficial.

Is this necessary for the Gen 3's. They have a self cleaning injector feature at hot idle that lasts 10 sec to 10 min depending on the build up. If you listen to your engine you can hear it "ticking". There have been many threads about this sound.

Lexus has been doing this for 10 years.

excellent. thanks. new to these engines. so the question is "does the low pressure port injection make the catch can unnecessary"?
if so, catch can is misguided on these engines.
i'll go looking for thread about it but any hint would be appreciated.
