@jtmiller2011 and I are talking about meeting on a weekend when I make a trip to Tucson (date not firm yet, but should have it soon). We were looking at meeting at AZ Mill at that time, so if necessary we can meet you there too.

That is utter BS because it doesn't agree with the actual firmware. Now if in a month, there is a Rev 2 to the TSB to delete discussion of the MT ECU or a new one comes out for the MT, then I might buy into that corporate mumbo jumbo.

I just wonder if the person that answered the email even knows exactly what they are talking about. Just throwing it out there.

There are plenty of dealers that are clueless and now some person from corporate is saying the same, but the fact is the codes are matching and the flash is accepted by our trucks.

I just don’t know if the person is 100% correct.

A lot of our buddies have been pretty happy with the results. Some haven’t had prior issues and are still happy. If nothing else, just trust me because I’m badass!!!

Forgive me if this is a stupid question. I have know idea how this shit works. If Toyota’s is playing dumb with the new flash for mt’s and was never meant to be released and all of us update anyway. Is it possible they come out with a flash in the future that we will not be able to update to from this “secret” ecu version. I guess I’m getting paranoid as I will be flashing this weekend and a little concerned about stepping out of bounds with Toyota.

They probably really don't know. Just imagine if they put it in writing that the TSB was good for MTs. Most of the dealers would all get their panties in a twist.

Yeah we can’t have that. Lol. There would be plenty of sad faced advisors if people come back in with that proof in hand!

Myself, I honestly do not care. This addressed most of the concerns that I had and the results, including MPGs, are more than I was really expecting from Toyota.

Also, the config control side of me would believe that any MT release after this one, mistake or not, will be identified as 04B14 or greater for my 2017 Taco.

Ya. Sounds good enough for me. Just curious what others might think. Def. getting this done ASAP. Just downloaded T.S. and the cuw file. I know there was a post in here somewhere but I’m pretty sure all I do is hook it up and open the file? When I open the file now it has a drop down menu with the toyota denso cable listed. I’m guessin I just run it with the tactrix at this point. I def. need my hand held on this one. Nuts and bolts are easy. Software to me is a different language.

The software walks you through it, telling every step what to do.

Computer connect with the cable, Truck in off position. Double click the file and do what it says.

I'll let you know as soon as my travel is confirmed. And I'll post in here for anyone else in the area that wants to meet there. Could do this half a dozen times and hardly change my travel time to Tucson.

Anybody in the SF Bay Area had any luck with the update? Either they did it thenselves or through any particular dealer?

For the record, the 2 times I have done it have been:

:anonymous: Don’t use hacked versions of Techstream for an ECU update.

:thumbsup:Don’t use a virtual machine environment to do an ECU update.

 Don’t use Bluetooth or WiFi dongles for an ECU update. (USB only)

 Do turn off Windows update service.

 Do turn off Windows system sleep functionality. Use the “always on” setting in power management pane.

 Do turn off USB power management for the USB port you’re using.

:anonymous:Do plug the laptop into a wall outlet. (but it is freshly charged and the update is very short)

:anonymous: Do hook up a battery maintainer to the vehicle during an ECU update.

 Do turn off all electrical consumers during ECU update.

I don't know? Do turn off USB power management for the USB port you’re using. - I think I might have done this a loooong time ago? Does setting this to off turn the USB port on early in boot up?

:anonymous:Do plug the laptop into a wall outlet. (but it is freshly charged and the update is very short)
