You know what's weird? The website is pretty good in general for functionality. And taxpayers have consequently taken on much of the burden for routine procedures through online self service. So the office workload for DMV staff is actually proportionality/per capita lower than in the past.

And everyone, no matter how poor, has a phone.

So, make the app, limit office visits to physical testing/inspection only, fix the back-end Oracle shit or whatever, and then fire 2/3 of DMV employees if the don't accept a job reclassification of stamping license plates or picking up trash on the side of the highway.

I swear to god. Google would have this done in a week. Or several 10-year old kids.

If only the state could pull there head out there ass and do that. They make it dam near impossible though. it will take 2 yrs to get funding approved to start to fix it.
I could write a book on the bull shit that I see.
On a positive note. I got a start date for the city. BY BY State job. Im hopping the city is a little better, but its still government work soooooooooooo.

I think they are working with flat files and COBOL on a legacy mainframe.

Some flags and center console divider... lots of things on the wanted list.
But if you know how to program and fix in COBOL you are looking at 100k easy. All the old stuff is still using it with very few masters left.

I saw some old woman the other day just cruising along in a brand new CTS-V. I was a bit jealous.

That is true but also makes it difficult for companies to find people like that that have recent experience with it. I was recruiting for a mainframe developer a few years back and hiring managers are idiots if they think they can find someone with RECENT experience working with that. Everyone whom I talked to last used it 10+ years ago. I agree that they are a needle in a haystack but those positions are too
