What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

So you order the kit, they send you this little container with postal. Do yourself a favor and dont just send the little container in the mail... It will take weeks and weeks for the post office to try and figure out what to do with it. Instead get a flat rate envelope or other kind of traditional postage envelope and send the sample in that.

No, I get it. Like I said, I have a new found appreciation for what you non-CA (AZ, NM etc) guys go through. I have never run in to a set of leaf bolt that were siezed up so bad.

 

Interesting, I have never had a problem sending the kit through the mail. They even have a thing you can print out for the post office that tells them how to handle it.

So do you send in your used oil at 3k or 5k miles?

 

I'd send your oil sample to two different labs. I can't help but think blackstone strings people along to keep sending in samples.

 

I had a '97 in the shop today for a front end noise. 484k and still ran like a top. He said original engine, 2nd clutch. Seat was effed though, can't imagine why. 250 lb. dude, 21 yr old truck. Still no rust in the body but showing age.

 

6 cylinder or 4 cylinder?

 

I'm curious to know what my results will be with my supercharger so I'll order a kit soon, and post up results on here. I know the previous owner ran the truck lean prior to me getting it and installing the 7th (front cat failed at 50k miles) so I'm hoping my results aren't frightening, but either way will be good to know what they are and what I might need to focus on.

 

Think I will do the same one test at next oil change 3k

I was changing it at 7.5k miles. I am going to change it at 5k this time and see if there is a noticeable change.

 

Ha I’m referring to us in the salt belt. You guys are spoiled.

 

I’d like to think they’re more honest than that. It would be interesting to see the same sample from different labs though. I would imagine their testing methods are slightly different, which may make a difference in the results.

 

After getting the truck together to drive I noticed that the steering is stiff. The rack I have is the original one (260,000+ miles on it) that came with the truck and the pump I got from a salvage yard here in denver a couple of years ago. There isn't any whining coming from the pump or steering when I steer. it's just stiff that's all.

So I'm assuming it's my old ass rack that finally took a shit on me. I just want to double check with ya'll before I buy a new one. Thanks!!!!

 

If there isn't already, there should be a general oil analysis thread... Maybe tailor it to 1st gens since none of us care about the newer trucks

Personally I'm still up in the air if it's worth it or not. I had a wrx that I took a sample of and it came back with worry some comments but I drove it for another 10k before getting rid of it and everything was fine.

 

Hey man, I haven't forgot about you just so you know. Build took a turn and this cage took me longer then expected. I hope your tank is hanging in there.

 

Could check out the guide bushing for proper tension.

When I flooded my truck my steering was tight for a few days then loosened back up to normal. No idea why I'd did that.
