Don't you need a HAM license to use it?

From my understanding, you'd only need a license to use a repeater. This topic has been covered 100s of times. It's just never applied to me.

Kinda like a dismantled AR. It doesn’t have the antenna, so it’s a legal sale. :D

Well, then, yes I would like to go off roading with him some Sunday! I am moving up the 15 to near Hwy 76 (Nessy Burger Land) from San Marcos, so after about a month I will be free. I have been wanting to see the differences between 2nd Gen traction controls and 3rd Gen. Specifically, in H4, the differences between TRAC and TRAC OFF and if there is any TRAC in L4 (besides A-TRAC/MTS).

As some of you know, analyzing the traction choices has been a fun hobby for me to share.
In my 2010 Off Road 4x4 (and other 2009-2011 Tacomas) in H4, TRAC has the engine regulation turned OFF, the same as AUTO LSD in H2. In 2012, they made it selectable so you are in TRAC with regulation (throttle cut) normally (just like in H2) and need to do the quick push of the VSC button to achieve the more powerful "TRAC OFF" or AUTO LSD mode. In L4 there is no TRAC at all, except for the most powerful A-TRAC.

Now, the 3rd Gens seem to be different... there have been reports and tests posted that TRAC is now stronger that TRAC OFF in H4 and that there is TRAC in L4. Off course the automatics now have MTS which is A-TRAC where you select the degree of spin control based on the ground surface.

As always, VSC OFF (stopping and holding in the button a few seconds) turns off TRAC and VSC. The name TRAC OFF is a poor choice. For the late 2nd Gens, it means traction control is ON and the engine regulation is turned OFF... braking of the spinning wheels but full power to the traction wheels.

I have been asking to go on a run (Ocotillo Wells or ?) so I can ride in and compare the systems and do a write up.

Well, I guess because they are sold out? The place is mobbed at lunch time... You know they are changing from the trailer to a real building, on the same site? The website says open to 7 pm, but I have found them closed earlier than that, myself. Once I move to within a mile of there, next month (if escrow goes through), I can give better updates. I have not eaten there a lot because I am not often in that area at lunch time. It is a great hamburger, however!

I should be organizing a run out there in DEC/JAN to avoid the heat. Keep an eye out in the SoCal forum for a thread.

Uh ya what you said, with them fancy words lol. No really I'm down to go wherever, I don't have armor yet so preferably places that won't wreck
I'm down to go wherever, I don't have armor yet so preferably trails that won't wreck my rocker panels. Though I have plenty of clearance so I'm not really worried. Aren't there some trails around Idyllwild or are they all closed!
Also you can ride with me......for a Nessy Burger!
