I could have wrote this word for word.

To be honest, I'm no better than the rest of the male population. I love options and gadgets. These multi process machines have both. In a welder, its not an advantage. The above average welder would not use 3/4 of the settings on these machines. In addition, we just do not have enough lifetime to learn all the different types of welding these can do. It will be money wasted.

As long as I'm commenting, I do not care for machines that have digital readouts. I adjust my heat and wire speed and only remember the position of the adjustment knobs. I can't remember what the readouts on the screens are for different metal thicknesses.

Being that I'm used to one of the bigger roll around machines also I don't quite trust these small inverter welders quite yet either. The one I have now is from 1988 and I love it. This will be my 3rd welder and I've just always had Lincolns. I get the combo machines won't be as solid as a dedicated machine. Actually don't really care about the tig so I could just find a mig that can take a spool gun for the aluminum.

Yup. The new Tig / stick combo inverters are good. Real rugged. I've had a Miller CST 280 and now own a dynasty 210dx (don't look at the price on that). They were both bomb proof.

The biggest difference with a good stick machine is those older generators create their power in DC current. Transformer machines rectify (?) ... forgetting my terms here, to DC from AC power.

The biggest difference is that when doing real touchy work there isn't a surge at the arc from the power being crossed over. It's just a straight garden hose of electrical current. Also, the older machines had copper windings instead of aluminum. Also smoother.

But that's just important for x-ray pipe and what not. And these new Hugh end inverters are near that level these days too.

Side note, I did a whole sanitary plant with a Chicago welder on a pinch that was xray. 99% of Tig welding doesn't matter what machine you have.

Let's not even discuss stick. I absolutely suck at it. lol

Always wanted to learn tig, just seems like a slower pace and relaxing to do to me.

Stick is just more portable and can be used on dirtier heavy metal. Less set up and less adjustments too compared to mig.

Tig isn't bad. Just a lot of practice. I do it every night so it gets boring after awhile.

The galley is always open but we’re low on food. It’s bad when you need to cook the old lunch meat before you can put it on your sandwich...

This is an old summer camp song. Why has it suddenly resurfaced?? I have heard several people sing this under the influence lately
