3rd gen 5100's w/ AAL

Needed it, the bearing started vibrating and making noise almost immediately after lifting. Next time I do it, it will be all at once.

 

How about the sumo springs? I have the same setup and put sumos in the back to avoid sag when loaded for camping. They do keep the back end from sagging but they are awful off road IMO. I'm probably going to switch out the sumos and Headstrong AAL for a full Dakar pack.

 

If I didn’t have the Sumo’s in place my constant load of 350-ish lbs causes the rear end to sag even with the AAL installed. I don’t do any intentional rock crawling, but I do want the truck to be able to go down marginal dirt roads to get me to the trail head or other wanderings, and be able to support the weight of the gear I bring with me in addition to the normal load.

I’m looking at OME Dakar leaf packs as well, just trying to figure out if I need the HD or MD. Leaning towards HD.

 

For me running up and down mountain passes in Colorado the back end with the sumos was stiff and made for slow going on the trail--even with a shell and 300 lbs of camping gear. I do have the 2nd gen sumos (a little taller) and are in contact with the frame all the time. That's probably not helping with the ride quality.
I think the full pack is the better option and probably should have just spent the money for them up front.
For me, I'm going to do the HD. If it is too stiff I can take out one of the overloads.

 

If it’s too stiff, then remove the 3rd leaf from the top to make it the same as the medium duty leaf pack. I don’t believe that removing an overload will affect ride stiffness at all.

 

You’re right...didn’t mean to type overload.

 

There is a rivet in the new progressive aal that sits against the overload. Did you cut it off?

 

My aal didn’t have rivets in it. I did have a rivet on my oem leaf spring that I left alone which makes my aal sit against it.

 

Ok so I bought the icons and they say to cut that one off. The one that’s hitting my overload they don’t mention because they are saying not to reuse the overload

 

The price difference is $40.00 from Headstrong between the MD and the HD. Get the HD and you are covered. Marie at HS said if you take one leaf out of the HD, you get the MD.

Any experience with 5100's set at 2" with stock springs? What kind of lift is netted in the end?

 

Two year update? haha, I bought my truck used, and previous owner put a 2 inch spacer and block. i want to upgrade this hopefully this year. im assuming my current ride is a little harsher than stock due to spacer and block. also, are you using stock springs etc? Thanks!

If you do the 5100’s and set them to about a inch lift with factory springs are you still going to have to do the bushing?

 

Most are saying no. Cheaper option for 1” of levelling is the headstrong 1/2” spacer which gives 1” of lift... toytec has these too... apparently not likely to need an alignment either...

I’m between using these spacers or going with 5100’s

 

I've been search searching for a week for find another 2.7 AC who put on 5100 and either 885 or 887s. Did the front settle beyond 2"? Did you add any weight up front? It looks awesome In your profile !

My brother give me his 2nd gen 5100's because he's now running a complete OME lift. I know those gives different lift mesurement than the 3rd gen 5100 and have 3 notchs insteed of 4. My question is, on wich notch i need to set these up if i keep my stock spring and i want to achieve a minimum of 2 inch lift in front ?
