I was going to be pretty impressed. And TBH since I only did some downhill once in the last 15 years (or really any riding since I was in H.S.) a 15 foot drop still sounds pretty b.a. to me.

Ha...I STILL Ride a Haro Impasse that I bought..for $350 in 1992 with my OWN money. I rode it for 5 years to work all summer (Life Guard) and it's been my every day bike since. I only use it now for family bike rides etc. It's got I don't even know how many miles on it. I just bought NEW 26" x 1.95 tires for it because I noticed the back tire has a side wall bulge. The chain loves to skip here and there and I know it's because the derailleur is a little worn. Still the original everything except Seat (Fat old man seat now) Handle grips (wide palm old man grips) all the changes are for comfort. Here I am a few years ago on Nantucket. We go there every year and bike all over the island. 28 lbs Chromoly frame...Still moves great. I treat it like one of those bikes a 3rd world person rides for 90 years. I get compliments on it from people and tell them it's a 25+ year old bike.

Hey any bike is a good bike. My favorite bike to ride is a 70's Puegeot with a steel frame and 27" wheels.

As long as it works for you and does everything you need it to, it doesn't matter what you paid for the bike. I have a bike that I paid $750 for that is just as much fun to ride in the right conditions as the bike I paid nearly $9k for when the conditions suit it.

For a bike that’s going to see a lot of hard use, there seems to be a lot of moving parts and linkages in the rear. You’d think they’d simplify it as much as possible.
Hey, you can do that on a $200 Huffy, you just couldn’t repeat it because it’d break in half.

My mountain bike is an old Trek 950 from the same era. Only mods were seat, pedals and a flex stem. Not my picture but same bike

And I guess I am not the only one to put a flex stem on this bike!

Lol. I just rid of my old Schwinn Le Tour, now I just have a Schwinn Super Sport that I liked better than the Cannondales of that time as well as my mountain bike

That rear wheel has 9" of rear travel. That linkage serves two purposes. The first being to keep the components as low as possible for cg, and it also helps reduce brake jack when under heavy breaking. Because you still need your suspension to work while on the levers

 Easy when it's good products

I'm sitting here trying to stiffle a laugh at my desk. I may be guilty of doing this as well :anonymous:
Lol I did that chain ring trick on my first MTB, '14 Specialized Hardrock Disc, that's on it's way to become a commuter/fun ride bike. My one of many side hoes is a '16 Diamondback Misson 2, bought for $1100 w/ 15mi sells for $3300 new; gotta love CL. My heart is set on a fatbike for my next one; demoed one at Nembafest and I was grinning from ear to ear.
