On the topic of gensets.... since this guy already mentioned he grabbed one....

I'd very highly recommend a propane one. Propane can be stored indefinitely. Doesn't leave deposits like petrol or diesel.
I've come across several hybrid units, that can run on either gas or LP.

Next home genny is going to be a nice full size whole house unit, blah blah.

I've come across some LP kits fir the small inverters(Honda, etc), I'd be game to try it... that would be great for camping, since I carry LP for lanterns, stove, blah blah.

    Back to the bed outlet:

Has anyone tried to pull the relay for it under the hood and jump pin 30 and pin 87?

That should give you 400W even when there's no key in the ignition. I'm just not sure if that's going to fuck up any computer stuff because the entire wiring to activate this whole converter is pretty complex. In my head it should be fine tho - aside from the obvious risk of depleting the battery

I have a B&S 5500w that I bought in 2005. I have been eyeing up the propane carb conversion kits for quite a while, but haven't pulled the trigger because this generator has been okay with gasoline so far, as long as I have time to get it before a storm hits (which wouldn't be necessary with propane).

For maintenance, I run it under load about once a year after changing the oil. When I put it away I just let it run with the fuel petcock turned off until it shuts down by itself. Never had to rebuild the carb or anything, and it always starts on two or three pulls the next time I run it. Only used it twice for a few hours.

OP, if you back feed into your house, and you don't have a transfer switch, please be careful. You can kill a lineman if you dont isolate your house from the grid, and it is illegal in many locations.

On Oahu and waiting for Hurricane Lane to turn west and avoid a direct hit to us. I have everything to shelter in place but a generator is on the list or a home type that will power my home. All my propane tanks are full so a propane type gen sounds interesting and worth looking into. Aloha

got a generac GP3300 at lowes. they had 4 left i got one and the remaining 3 were grabbed up by the time i paid for mine. here in hawaii the power can go down anywhere from a day to weeks depending. hurricane approaching now has degraded from a 4 to a 2 and will not directly hit maui.

I didn't know he was in the market for a commercial generator. Last I knew portable generators run on gasoline. Not that it matters in the big picture.

I like to run ethanol free gas, put in marine stabil 360 into each gas can. when not in use drain gas and fog with sea foam. have lotsa gas on hand. transfer switch for your house is handy.

This. I have a WEN 9000 watt gen, and run transfer switches. Paid 700.00 on Woot. Screenshot_20180824-184429_Samsung Internet.jpg Powers whole house, with the exception of the hot water heater...by choice. Im in FL, can live without it. So far, 4 years running strong. Used during 12 power outtages, one lasting 9 days. Great excuse to grill up the lobster in the freezer though. Ate like a king.
