Yup. Everything is a sacrifice. 2 broken vertebrae, dislocated hip, fractured elbow, a few trigger fingers......great for accidentally stabbing the weld with filler wire a times....and destroyed shoulder.

And we get kids upset that they have to lean over a table to weld a tube. I'm always like you bitch, I used to weld 24" in places like under that damn table.

Too many buttercups. But I digress.

I need to do my spindle gussets soon. Been slackin

So who else hates, well dislikes, welding tube? I can lay a pretty good bead around tube, but it's not the best. Who's got some tips? It's not quite time to weld the backhalf out, but the time is coming up quick.

    Process?

Mig or tig I just make sure I can get comfortable and my fits are as tight as I can get them.

Mig welding on a tube I will run as far as I can and then stop and feather my start and stop with a die grinder. Then reposition to a place I can finish out the weld.

Tig I do the same thing but skip the die grinder.

Guess I should have mentioned the process. I'm running mig.

I agree with getting as comfortable as possible and the tight copes. That certainly helps keep things clean.

Yep. Fitup. And weld the joints in a order so it pulls the assembly in a controlled way.

Once I read your filler wire I said Ok then.

Seems to me a climate controlled shop would cure the humidity ( We Can All have those fantasies)

I do have some customers that have a very cool shop

No. But stick around long enough and you'll know what we are talking about.

Yeah we use 1/16” filler wire on most of our repairs. Hyundai filler metals suck for the record. It sucks using MIG as much as we do but it is faster most of the time than stick. That said we do all of our vessel and tube repair with TIG and SMAW.

Rare breed now a days. Good hard working smart up starts are hard to find.

Don’t care for that kind of technology my self. Kind of like the iron roughneck it is just going to kill a bunch of jobs.

I worked with guys that had never done either process

We had a welder here that retired a year or so ago that could only stick weld. However he was an artist at it and there was no need to UT his work. If he said it was good you could lay your money on it, it was.

Someday there will be a welder saying

""I remember when we used to put diesel into our welders"
