    Take a look here:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/software-update-for-the-manual.562550/page-41#post-18492135

That pic is the new TSB firmware opened as a text file in Windows Notepad. The three highlights toward the bottom are the three MT-only ECUs. 04B10 for the early 2016s through 04B12 for the 2017s. The firmware upgrades all three ECUs to 04B13.

I had 12 and noticed a big difference. It is just more pleasant to drive all the time.

I do agree. That said, 04B12 updating to 04B13 is specifically noted in the TSB. OBD Fusion or TS can pull and verify that 04B12 is the version on any 2017 MT Taco.

I too had 12, and it was very noticeable to me as well. I like driving the truck a lot more now (and I liked it before the update)

I had the printed TSB and highlighted the 3 codes that are the "manual transmission" codes. It did take some massaging to get him to do it, but I told him he could be a superhero and send his knowledge to Toyota Corp and get it figured out for all MT's.

That sucks, wonder if some pencil pusher reviewed the TSB and since it says Automatic then just stopped.

I printed it out too, haven't whipped it out yet though. Talked to the advisor and shop foreman about it...foreman says it doesnt seem to apply but he will hook it up and look for an update. He said if it shows an update, he will do it, TSB or no TSB.

I told the foreman and advisor that if they fix it, I will never go back to their competing dealership's service center...I'll be their customer for life. They were cool with that. The truck is in the back now.

I posted too soon...as I hit "post", the service advisor came out and said he was wrong and the foreman found an update for the manual ECM...it has been installed, and he said he doesn't know what it will do, but hopefully it fixes my issues.

    Tits.

Sweet! Glad it worked out so far! I think you'll like the way it responds meow, but you may have to adjust the way you were driving it on the 1st to 2nd shift. lol

Ya, it's weird. Your going to have to lose the muscle memory of the way you drove it. I concur with what everyone else is saying about this upgrade, it is immediately noticeable. I won't regurgitate what everyone else has said already...but I will focus on 'consistency'. The skinny pedal is much, much more consistent now. It still isn't mechanical cable consistent, but my right foot is much happier now. It allows for considerable better feathering of the throttle. The old config was sometimes unpredictable on how it would respond for a throttle blip, where as this config seems to behave with the same pattern every time.

Was mostly highway so I was hoping to get a good handle on mpg difference, I do this trip every week. Had quite a stiff headwind so hard to gauge but from what I'm seeing, at worst it's equal Mpg.

Rev hang seems less, dfco seems non existent but it wasn't a real issue for me before the flash...I feather the hell outta the throttle down there so dfco usually doesn't kick in for me, like I said however this flash does allow me to feather it much more finely.

I'll take it into town tomorrow to see how it runs in a urban setting.

TL;DR I would recommend it as an upgrade! And I was not unhappy with the truck previously.

Yeah it definitely made a huge difference. I've been driving stick all my life...cars, trucks, Corvette, forklifts, tractors...you name it...no issues. This is the first time I questioned my finness with the clutch. Now all is right in the world....I am again competent.

The service advisor and foreman looked up in the software what was changed and he stated it takes input from the tranny and adjusts the fuel and air delivery. Originally they thought the software only changed the shift points in the AT.

The clutch and gas pedals feel like they're in sync. My muscle memory is good, because now I don't have to think about feathering so much

    EDIT:
Advisor also said that because they know what the deal is now, to go ahead and send other MT owners over and they will take care of the update. Anyone in the Northeast GA area....go to Milton Marton Toyota in Oakwood.

Ok thanks. Have an appt tomorrow for the squeaky clutch. Was going to mention the 3500 rpm surge as well.

No go for me. Had my 15k service today. The technician said the TSB was only for automatics and didn’t apply to my truck. I tried to convince him. He said he couldn’t because it will “ruin” my truck. I told him I’ll be back when a reworded TSB is released which includes manuals.
