Only to stir the pot, I run 255 with no cutting and no cmc. That said, I don’t run mud flaps on the front. Also every truck is different, so what works for one person may not work for another. First pic: 20 miles on tires Second pic is at 41,000miles photo cred for second pic @Breezy 7F7A46C0-DF52-429B-806F-A3916913CB48.jpg444E9D26-C701-41CE-AF0D-59F0761CD093.jpg

Yeah, thats my problem. I see "we had to chop" and I make up my mind, then I see conflicting reports that are like "Naw, you're good". I know it is all down to wheel combos, truck variances, etc, but it is enough to make your head hurt.

Just curious what your back spacing and offset is for your wheels? I have 4.5 backspacing and a 0 offset.

SCS shows 4.0 BS -12 offset. Just can't recall if that is [-12 off of 4.0 aka 3.5" BS ] or [ 4.0 BS net result of 4.5 -12]

A negative offset will add more backspacing so that results in a 4.5 backspacing
    https://carfromjapan.com/article/car-maintenance/wheel-offset-and-wheel-backspacing-explained/
    1. Negative Offset
This kind of offset means, the hub-monitoring surface is closer to the inside edge of the wheel and the wheel sticks more outwards than inwards. This kind of offset benefits the design process by allowing sharp angles, deep spokes and incredible layering.

    2. Zero Offset
In this case, the hub-mounting surface is even with the centerline of the wheel.

    3. Positive Offset
When the hub-mounting surface is closer to the outside edge of the wheel, it is referred as the positive offset. In this case, the wheel actually wraps around the hub and brake more deeply. It is commonly found in wheel drive and newer rear drive cars.3E5FE41D-3056-430E-9A3B-211B3401E8DE.jpg

I ran 17” SCS with 255 on my last truck that had the typical out of the box OME 2.5” lift and LR UCA. I still rubbed up front and was resolved by trimming/molding plastic and removal of the mud flaps. I never had issues with the cab mount under similar driving as you’ve described you do.

That being said, I’d do all that trimming again without any hesitation if I was considering 255s again. Until some additional non E load options enter the market, I’ll likely be sticking to other sizes. E load is way overkill for my needs and drive comfort preferences, and the weight of the 255 STMaxx was very noticeable to me. Although I did love the tire for what it was.

Just my $0.02, not that anyone asked :notsure:

Btw.... my 265/75r16 Duratracs were load range C. 285/75r16 STT PROs are load range E.

E's ride MUCH better. Not even close.....

Yeah, I wish these were offered in C load, but whatever. I pretty much decided I am gonna go 265/75R16. Just called the Big O I live near for a quote. Always a good thing when the techs (FJ and Taco geeks themselves) remember and dork out over your truck. :D

I don’t know how to post memes. But if I did I’d post one with lots of clapping and smiling in celebration and rejoice.

I wheeled the hell out of my 32s prior to getting the skinny 33s. I haven't wheeled these new ones yet but I don't expect they're going to make a earth shattering difference...the extra inch of clearance is probably going to be the most noticeable.
