I corrected my original post, I meant if it came original with a side dump - you can't do a rear dump.

I have the aftermarket TRD tailpipe

Was an option through TRD like the headers and supercharger, which I also have. PO had them installed back when they were still available

I cut it off WAY after any censors or the muffler.

If I got failed because I cut 12" off my pipe, I'd take that shit to court, that'd be ridiculous.

TRD probably sells that crap now because all the dweebs with 3rd gen TRDs have sweet looking badges and shift knobs and stuff, but that didn't come on the 1st gens from the factory.

I'll ask around. Ideally, I do like the side dump where it is so I may extend it a few inches to clear the shackle.

as long as it is cut behind the sensors, cat and muffler it will not affect smog. Going to get mine smogged this week. I doubt they will have issues with it.

    Like a 5lug

I wonder if you can just swap that section between your two trucks

TRD doesn't sell any aftermarket stuff for 1st gens anymore to my knowledge..was all discontinued unless its just left over stock. Still do of course for the 2nd and 3rd gens.

I really liked the TRD tail pipe...I didn't realize how much more sound it was putting out until I got it chopped off...my truck got a lot quieter. Used to set off my neighbor's 3rd gens alarm in the morning if I gave it too much gas leaving my driveway lol. Not anymore though.

That's why I cut mine off: to clear my longer shackle.

Seemed like FAR less work than fabricating (or buying) some extension for it.

Hope this is true, I can't find the post where some TW member said he failed because of the axle dump. He might have just gone to a really strict shop though I dunno.

They probably just didnt wanna get under his truck but it is not illegal and will have no effect on your emissions.

    Yeah.
Used to have a 1st gen, miss it.

Just popped in to say every time this thread jumps to the top I read it as "Lunchable" instead of "Lunchtable." And I wonder why discussions about Lunchables is restricted to 1st genners. Not that I have much of an opinion either way. That is all.

I didn't think they ever did (because essentially the only things "TRD" on factory 1st gens were lockers, shocks, and some stickers), but I've seen enough people say they bought "TRD exhaust" or whatever for their first gens to make me wonder if Toyota started selling people over priced TRD parts because they were selling like hotcakes to the 2nd and 3rd genners.

They did, it was an option just like the supercharger, headers, CAI and drop in filters, etc. were back in the day...same as how the other guys have those options now. TRD stopped doing it for 1st gens though around the same time the stopped offering the supercharger.

Yeah, it all depends on the shop and how strict they are and what they have interpreted as being a violation (some seem to think that if it's not 100% stock, it should fail). My last smog in the taco (a couple months ago) I still had an emissions test not ready, still passed. Back in the day my 86' 4Runner died while being tested due to a distributor issue. Still passed.
