More specifically, who's done it on a 1GR-FE? I understand a few things about nitrous but I've not seen any kits and I really haven't found much about it on here either. I searched the Technical forums (thinking that was the best place) but didn't see much. Figured I'd post here though due to coverage reasons.

I'll be perfectly honest, I've always sort of shunned nitrous thinking it was an engine destroyer but now that I know more it seems like a more viable option. It's easy to see why some people like it. Power when you need it and 100% OEM drivability when you're doing the rest of your driving (which is 99% of the time).

    back to bone stock.

unless something has changed; a full charged nitrous bottle is only good for a very limited time. during my drag racing days..it was good for 3 runs. 33 seconds . i had a stage 1 NOS system. it was the lowest power gain, used for stock motors.

i cant see having less than 1 minutes of extra power in a tacoma being of any real world use. they used to have an RV NOS kit. a bottle to help you up steep grades, it was a poor seller.

It's really for full-throttle use, so I could see an X-runner at the dragstrip using it. It's not going to be useful to you for, say, rock crawling.

And most of the time NO2 injection needs to be done at WOT I think...Not often that I find myself needing more umph with the pedal all the way down...

A race engine-That's one thing. Dropping it in your daily driver Tacoma...seems like overkill to me.

You'd be better off with a trd supercharger if you are looking for real gains.

I haven't done it on the 1GR, but I did have it on the 3.4L V6 along with the supercharger and completely stock internals. It was a wet sytem (injecting nitrous and fuel). I considered that the safer way to go to avoid leaning out too much. I had it trigger at WOT, there's really no reason to have it activate any lower than that. The weakest link I found was the stock clutch :D And it was my DD. ;)

Yeah....Didn't say it couldn't be done...but what did you gain from that install besides a slipping clutch and a flammables bottle in your truck??

Two types, dry (nitrous) and wet (nitrous and fuel), but I doubt anyone has either kit for the 1GR-FE. It's not a typical power adder for us so I don't see a specific kit, but you could get a universal kit and make it work.

Flammable bottles in the truck? It's an oxidizer. The clutch was upgraded shortly thereafter. What did I gain? A fast-ass truck that surprised the hell out of many a muscle car. I raced my truck every Wed here at the strip. I eventualy went away from the nitrous and installed water injection instead and increased the boost :D Would I do it for my new DC prerunner? No. Would I do it on Xrunner? More than likely.

A universal kit would work great (it's what I used). The toughest part was finding a good spot to tap into the fuel rail for the wet system.

Not sure. On the 3.4, I tapped into the hig-press line that fed the rails. They may do something similar. I was using the upgraded fuel kit that Gadget (before he started URD) assembled. The 7th injector would have been much easier, but there was no such thing at the time.

Oh, and the bottle was in the secured in bed and attached only at the strip. Never used it on the street. No real point for it there IMO. ;)

There's a pic in this thread that shows where the bottle was...http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/new-members/36030-old-new-guy.html

Again, not that I'm really wanting to get it for myself but I understand why a truck person would. Like I said, a supercharger or turbo would be overkill for me since I don't need that power all the time. But every once in a while you get a wild hair (you know what I mean) and having an extra 50-100hp wouldn't be such a bad thing.

I was really just curious to see if anyone had done it on the 1GR-FE to see how it was affected and if it was somewhat safe.

This is kinda what I was getting at. You were racing with the bottle. It's semantics- but if you didn't have the bottle in the truck every day- then you "Installed nos in your daily driver" but it was only ever used for the strip. Physically installed- Yes. In a daily driver- debatable.

If it truely was ONLY a daily driver- then NOS would be nearly useless imho. Race trucks is a totally different thing.

I run a 30-50 shot of nitrous on 9-10 PSI of TRD boost on pump gas with a decent fuel ratio and timing advance with zero knock; daily driver on stock internals.

If anyone has any questions feel free to drop me a PM/Email. There is a lot of confusion, misinformation, and scare tactics when it comes down to nitrous. Most of which come from people who have never used it before in their life OR who have had a bad experience because of related inadequacies.
