    Howdy, all!

Coming from a 91 Jeep Cherokee, manual transmission on 31s... The Jeep used to be my all-in-one, post-college do everything vehicle, but it's getting up there in miles and has been relegated to adventure/home-depot use only. We often go on backpacking/mountaineering/overlanding trips that have us miles from civilization and carrying lots of gear (and wishing I could carry a dirt bike) so it's time for a newer reliable truck.

So... I just finalized the deal on a 2018 TRD Pro, Super White, manual transmission. Unfortunately, the best price I could get (by a long shot) was on the other side of the country. People want crazy money for any Tacoma out here, let alone TRD PROs. Will be flying out and driving it back from North Carolina to Oregon over about a week starting the 31st.

I've read a few things about improperly filled diffs and under-lubricated u-joints. Anything else I should get the dealer to double check before driving the truck ~2800 miles home?

    Thanks!

Welcome to TW! I hope you got one hell of a deal because that airfare and gas driving back isn't cheap.

    Thanks, everyone!

No particular plan for the trip back. Thinking of trying to hit either Mt. Rushmore or Pike's Peak on the way back. Other than that haven't had time to plan anything out. Open to suggestions for sure!

Pretty happy with the deal. There is a black, manual transmission one in Gresham, OR that came down to $41,500 after I told them I didn't want a black truck (since I intend to use it and don't want the added maintenance). Other than that the cheapest I could find were all in the $47-50k range. Signed the deal at $40,600 out the door (I'll need to register once I get it back here). My dad is going with me for a father-son road trip, $406 for both our plane tickets. Planning on maybe another $1000 in gas/hotels (but I mentally categorize that as travel expenses to have a road trip with my dad vs. truck costs so... meh).

Haha... Watch out for this guy. He may get lost on the way to OR and end up with a new TRD Pro in Fallon, NV...

not sure what part of NC you are picking it up from but if you have time check out OBX ( Outer Banks) if it fits in your timeline, you won't be dissapointed...Pikes Peak definitely worth it and Rushmore..some guys on here live or play along your route..might be helpful to check out some of those area threads on here and ask around... sounds like a great trip be careful and enjoy

    Wow that's pretty cool man.

a Huge jump though! From a '91 XJ to a 2018 TRD Pro?
    Just wow.
I guess this means I should consider NC if I ever buy a car new!

Just be careful of speeding tickets...I'm a frequently traveler myself, and I find it hard to catch a break. Which is one of the main reasons I sold my 'cars' and have been a 'truck only' guy the past 2-3 years.
My girlfriend has driven from DC to California twice, down to Florida 4-5 times, and to New Orleans twice.
Little asian girl, 26 years old...2012 Camry. Girl can't stop getting speeding tickets. Really ruins your whole trip when you stumble into a tourist bait trap and get a $250 "no need to appear" ticket for going 82 mph in a 70 when the flow of traffic is 85...

Be especially careful on the downhill slopes.

I'm saying this as this is likely not something you've ever had to give any thought to in the Jeep
