    First,
I want to thank everyone for their responses, and for keeping this subject civil.

    Second,
I in no way created this thread to change people's minds, but I hope it will motivate some to do some research and make an educated decision. Most people are pro-life becuase of religion, and other are pro-choice but dont fully understand both sides of the argument.

    Third,
I know we wont come to an agreement, or will we find the solution but we will become better informed.

    FINALLY,
If you're posting just to be a dick, or to say the thread is going to get locked any minute now please don't bother posting. When reading this thread I see a civil discusion about a hot button. The fact that we can talk about it as a community says a lot about us. All you people that are too childish to understand this need to move on. Thanks.

If anyone had to decide for you, however, I think the only living person at that time that could make the best decision is your mother, and not common/civil/federal law. Do you agree?

I'm sorry of this has been covered but I only read the first 4 or so pages before responding...

Legal or illegal, abortions will continue to be administered. If we were to outlaw abortion we would be opening up very dangerous doors. Abortions would no longer be performed by trained doctors in sterile, professional, regulated environments. Instead, more abortions would be performed in places like bathtubs by people that are devoid of absolutely any professional skill, ability, or medical learnedness.

This point must precede how all of us personally feel about abortion, though I know that this thread is chiefly concerned about just that, our own personal opinions. So this is just a side note and further food for thought.

    Still prochoice.

I agree making illegal would be retarded. I still think it is wrong though.

No because the person who deserves the death penalty is one who has done something atrocious to somebody else, such as a rapist. An innocent child conceived because of the rapist doesn't deserve what the rapist deserves.

    Good post!
First off, don't get in the situation to begin with. How hard is it to double-up on a damn rubber? Secondly, since the kid knows he doesn't have the money, the time, or the resources to raise a child, then WHY does he get in that situation to begin with?

Because he's a kid, and he is horny. Why would you expect a kid to behave/think like an adult?

I just think it's common sense... Being horny is no excuse to being responsible when something so precious as life is on the line.

"people should be free to do what they like with their body. "

    agree!

however, it's not their body they're doing something to, it's someone elses body.

and they do have a choice, they can choose not to get pregnant.

Good point...and neither should BIG BROTHER pay for or financially support abortion; you screw up, YOU pay the bill...I was involved in a situation MANY years ago that ended in an abortion, at a time when abortions were not nearly as common, and it wasn't considered early term either...as stated by someone else, neither person is prepared for the mental consequences, which can last for years, especially for the female involved. Having had personal experience w/ the issue at hand, I'm pro life now...

So abortion is killing and that is bad. Execution is killing and that is good. I don't agree, if the arguement is abortion stops a beating heart, so does execution, regardless that the person disobeyed man's law. So our justice system can authorize an abortion... I'm mean ah, a execution and that's ok, but a women can't authorize her own self determination not to be a mom. Isn't that her indivdual right not to be mom if she so chooses.

I have two kids and have had a vasectomy because my wife almost died in the birth of my second child and wanted to prevent a unwanted pregnancy. But if she accidently got pregnant, because I understand that a vasectomy is not 100%, we would take that chance and have the child, that would be our choice, but I would not impose a law to restrict someone right to choose for whatever their reason. That's why I say, if you're against abortion, don't have one. But don't make me live the way you want me to live, I'll choose my own self determination.

Yeah, I'm not pessimistic about the thread itself. I've just seen many threads (here and elsewhere) when "far right" or "far left" people end up typing in all caps. I'm pleasantly surprised so far with this one. We'll just have to agree to disagree on the "for whatever reason" and the "it is her body" parts. We have laws in this country to stop people from doing things that hurt other people. In my view, abortion is hurting another person. It's not the mother's body that's being killed. The mother gets to go on and live her life. The baby doesn't.
