The plug doesn't look that bad to me. Id just put a new set of plugs in keep a close eye on the oil level. I can't see how reving it up a few times would hurt anything. Its normal for vehicles to use some oil between oil changes too.

Is there blue smoke coming out the exhaust? Usually that's a sign an engine is burning oil. Even that doesn't necessarily cause a significant loss in power. I've got a mustang with bad valve seals that makes a ton of power.

OP. rev'ed to what? was he in neutral and he let the motor rev up unbridled? if so, you risk bent valves. i was in track car when this happened..missed shift, RPM went to the moon..but just once. after that, there was a mild loss of power and a barely percievable motor vibe.

leak down and compression test time.. found bent valves...good luck.

yup the car was in park, he reved up to 5500rpm or so, rev limiter kicked it

as far as bent valves, I guess it depends on an engine

no smoke, a very small mist when I start it up, but it only lasts for few seconds, probably water vapor in the exhaust.

    Hope this helps:
    from this: http://www.gnttype.org/techarea/engine/plugs.html

"A spark plug shorted by excessive oil entering the combustion chamber is shown below. This is often caused by piston rings or cylinder walls that are badly worn. Oil may also be pulled into the chamber because of excessive clearance in the valve stem guides, or badly worn valve stem seals. If the PCV valve is plugged or inoperative, it can cause a buildup of crankcase pressure. This condition can force oil and oil vapors past the rings and valve guides into the combustion chamber."

Being 12k miles; I'd highly doubt the rings and walls are worn unless some water/abrasive got into the fuel/oil system. The excessive clearance could have been caused by the extreme revving on a non-loaded(tranny not engaged) engine and the computer did not adjust the valve timing correctly allowing some oil to pull through. As previously mentioned, try replacing the spark plugs and test the coils for voltage. If the spark plugs are still being oil fouled, you may have a bigger task on your hands.

i vote bent valves. seen it 4 times in my life. motors dont like free spinning. cheap compression and leak down test. eliminate the obvious first, before breaking any gasket seals..

yeah but in this case, the spark plug is not covered by oil, just the threads

you need a compression tester. honestly take it somewhere. cant cost that much to have compression and leakdown tested. you need an air compressor anyways.

My vote is that everyone is over reacting. It was reved to 5500 for 3 seconds. Give me a break. You can tear into the engine if you want, but I bet nothing is wrong with it. How fragile do you think these engines are?

I do not think they are the valves, the engine is too new to fail so...

I keep saying check the Ignition Coil`s,

what does mileage or age of motor have anything to do with this? what do you think will happen to a coil, on a over rev?

a Ignition Coil can fail any time, I already had that problem with a other car, and are the same symptoms.... mechanical things do not fail so fast, with so little mileage, if they have good oil and maintenance at day... the engine have 12000 miles...it`s basically new..

makim, take a Ignition Coil of a friend from you with a FJ Cruiser, and change the Coil one by one in your truck .. and you can se if some fail, and the engine run better..., if it in the 6 changes, the 6 coil no fail, then you discard the problem...

night..do you understand the mechanics on what happens on an over revd motor?

has nothing to do with mileage or age of motor.
