I'd think you'd want the fan controlled by the AC _in addition to the engine temp_rather than simply instead of engine temp. That way it cools the radiator whenever necessary but also cools the condenser when the AC is on. Sort of an override switch. Possibly just add a switch +12V feed to the fan clutch? Or get fancy and pull from the AC on switch in the AC control panel.

Not 100% true. I've had many customers complain about this same situation and have no coolant temp issues

I mean I feel like you would be able to tell with an actual gauge if your fan wasn’t working. Like an Ultragauge or Scangauge. The thermostat opens at 180 F, and if the fan is keeping the motor at 185 then I think it is fairly logical to assume that the fan clutch is working. I could be wrong though. Wouldn’t be the first time.

You cannot tell just by looking at the gauge cluster for temp. From 160 to 215 it doesn’t move. It may not move to an even higher temp, that is just the highest I have seen on my UG with the temp needle happily in the middle. I think by the time that worthless needle rises it’s probably too late.

If you're saying your AC is shit at idle try this, leave the truck idling with AC on and wait till your problem comes up (warm AC) then flush the condenser with water for about 30sec to a minute if your AC gets cold the way its supposed to you now know you have a cooling fan issue

I would say look at getting window tint for the truck and even get the type of tint that blocks out the uv rays not just the tint that darkens the windows it’s alittle more costly but the vehicle will be much cooler even when under the sun all day

My hope is the 8 inch fan will turn enough air for the A/C without blocking too much air flow. If it will quit raining I will knock it out. How did you mount your fan?

Interesting technique. My ac is actually shit driving and idling so I think I have a charge issue. Once I get the charge figured out I will try out what you have said and see what happens. With my bigger radiator I have wondered if it made the airflow through the condenser worse, I think that test would prove that.

I checked my refrigerant level today.

    60FF52EB-5383-42E0-982F-0CBF50A25BE7.jpg

Spec is 570-630 grams. This is what the machine measured for the recovery amount.

So that’s what I put back in.

I don’t really have any issues with my A/C. I just decided to check it, just to be sure it has the proper amount of refrigerant. No difference one way or the other.

I wish the blower moved more air, but other than that, my A/C works pretty good.

Here’s what ive done to “improve “ airflow through the condenser. Moved the horns, made some block plates for the sides, cooling plate, and another plate that kinda directs airflow into the radiator. Also cut some of the condenser mounts off. Id like to make a piece that attaches to the top of the condenser that angles up to the radiator, and maybe order the Toyota foam pieces that go on the sides of the radiator.

I have my new 10 inch fan, My wiring harness is 3/4 complete and I just need to find time to remove the grill and make the mounting brackets for the fan.
