I have a 2016 TRD sport MT. It was running fine and then out of the blue, the check engine light comes on, trac off light comes on and it goes into limp mode. It threw a cylinder #1 misfire code at a local repair shop. Have taken it to the dealer and they are pulling the intake and fuel rails to check the injector. Sure hope this is covered under the power train warranty as it has a little over 53000 miles on it.

I looked around and can't find a similar issue. Anyone else have a problem such as this? The BSM went out a year or so ago but I have not had it fixed. Not really needed and it seems the cost would be pretty high. Doubt it is connected to the current issue.

    Any thoughts are appreciated.

Could be that pesky crank position sensor.

I saw there was a recall for that but, of course, my VIN was not included.

It's the only thing I know that causes those 3 symptoms other than the gas cap.

Odd that, I'm a 9/15 build and I'm affected. Haven't done it yet, runs good. But 16 MT, surprised its not

My wife's Camry had IDENTICAL alarms today. Went to the dealer with the receipt from Auto Zone OBD codes and as soon as they opened the hood, the dealer said: here is your problem pointing to the hose being out of the connection. A week ago when I checked the air filter and opened cover "A", I must have put pressure on the hose and it came out. As soon as it was put back, the car felt normal again with power. Dealer had to clear the computer alarms but all good now.
I would go and check ALL hoses connections and if are damaged.

On my 2001 Tundra I used to have that only had 105,000 on it when I traded it in, the coils on the spark plugs went bad one by one. When one went bad, the check engine light would come on and run like a tank. Autozone pulled codes every time that a cylinder was misfiring. Man, them things were 300 bucks a pop and no aftermarket parts were available. I’m sure Tacoma’s have a similar set up.

Well they seem to have found it. It seems an animal got under the hood and went to eating some of the wires. Specifically the ones that control the #1 injector. They have ordered another harness that is supposed to be here on Tuesday. At first, i was told the harness would be north of $1200 with 12 hours labor. I got a call a little later and was told that they only have to replace a small harness and its price is $50 or so. Total cost will be $500-$600, sucks but better than the first estimate!

Sucks that the warranty does not cover animal mischief, but your insurance under comprehensive might??

1200 bucks to replace a harness and 12 hours labor? WHAT? 12 hours? I guess that includes the mechanic taking in a dinner and a couple of movies.

Glad it got figured out and only costing half as much.

Deductible is $500 so it will not be worth it in this case. Need to check my coverage's to see if it would be covered in the first place. This can always happen again....

If it was a part failure in the fuel system, it most likely be covered under under the emissions 80k mile warranty, so no worries on that end, just FYI.

Time to put some cayenne pepper on those wires. Wet down the engine bay and give it a dusting and let dry.

OP, glad you got it repaired. Here is a thread with lots of good tips for keeping animals out of your engine compartment.

Well..... they put the harness for the #1 injector on and the problem remains. they then checked the fuses and a 30 amp fuse was melted away, very little of it left.. now i get a text that they will "pin and probe" the harness and computer. it will take 2 days..

It does not appear that they have a clue what is wrong...
