I am guessing the update couldn’t really be done until the tsb came out, so after July-ish they may have updated some vehicles from the factory? I’m not really sure. I have a march build 18 so I had this done and it’s much better.

Just picked my 18 OR up from the dealer. 2nd dealer I delt with, first dealer claimed they had no idea what a TSB even was and there were no recalls so nothing they could do, even though I printed the TSB off and showed it to them.

She said I was the 2nd Tacoma today with the TSB printed off and they've done a few in the last month. She drove a 17 TRD Pro so he was well aware of the issues. She also said if a dealer claims to not know what a TSB is to go somewhere else immediately.

45 minutes and I pulled out of the parking lot. No muss no fuss.

I drove about 50 miles, mixed with back roads, highway, and town driving. It feels like a new truck, or at least closer to what an automatic transmission should feel like. Wasn't hunting for gears constantly on the back roads and interstate, and city driving felt responsive and much less clunky.

The biggest thing I noticed was while driving through town letting off the gas and the pressing it again a few seconds later was smooth. Previously it would jerk super hard. Not sure if it was the torque converter or what but sometimes it would feel like I was about to rip the rear end out.

The dealership also placed the sticker under the hood.

All in all its worth it, and to parrot everyone else, the way our trucks should have came from the factory.

If you're in central KY then call Georgie at Frankfort Toyota. Very pleasant experience.29F5762D-7B1E-4A18-BBAA-467CC4061D39.jpgE876D06F-E0DE-4D6E-9372-F2FB554B9446.jpg

I got the update done about a month ago now. Truck drives and shifts A LOT better. Smooth ride and when it guns it you feel it. Also as for gas mileage I have noticed it is a bit better than before the update. In the city I am getting better mileage than before. I love my Tacoma. 3rd Gen is getting there with the Toyota tech tweaks they are doing and researching. Unfortunate it took 3 years into the new generation to achieve this. I’m certain more future updates will fine tune the beast. RED OR DEAD!

I think Someone posted a build date when the update started being added. I think it is in the "finaly a fix thread". It might even be early in that thread. If not, get a monster and plan to sit for awhile.

I concur with the "around town" increase of about 1.5 MPG, I had the TSB installed on 16 AUG and have had an increase of just under that amount. Tomorrow I'll be doing about five hours total of driving on the interstate, we'll see what happens with that side.

In my specific case, I think the primary cause for the difference in local-area MPG is due to not having to hit the pedal so hard to get a proper acceleration profile. The tip-in behavior is much better and more predictable, so there's less variance in what I'm doing with the pedal.

Sadly the first dealership I went to said they updated it. Still feels the same. I know they didn't do it or didn't know how to. Hopefully I'll find a dealership that will know or will do it.

Well.......if it was an election, the Toyota Tune is a “landslide victory”. Hard to argue with the numbers. It would seem, if you get tuned, you are far more likely to be happy with the result than either not notice a difference, or dislike the change.

    I’m sold.

I think with one of the phone apps and a bluetooth reader, someone posted the before and after numbers showing the 62-18 update. Might have been carista, car scanner or torque app..

...and the results are in, 79MPH average with all the windows down got 20.1 MPG across the drive from home to Indianapolis to back near home where I filled up. Last time I did that specific trip I got 16.7 MPG and it was with all the windows up (back in February). So I'm going to definitely call this one a win regarding gas mileage alone!

However, I can also confirm one other thing: THE GEAR HUNTING IS GONE.

Where before it would unlock the TC and a few seconds later downshift one gear, it's simply unlocking the TC now. Locking the TC again happens once the load decreases a little, usually at the top of whatever rise you were going up.

If the TC unlock isn't enough it will downshift one gear, but it's not just for a couple seconds and then shifting right back up, and it doesn't happen right away unless you're continuing to move the pedal.

Where it would immediately unlock the TC AND downshift two gears, it now unlocks the TC and a couple seconds later downshifts one gear, then downshifts another gear if you push the pedal down further at all.

If you mash the pedal over 55 MPH it simply goes "YES SIR!" a split second later and takes you down to whatever gear is necessary to see about 4,750 RPM, shifting back up at about 6,000 RPM. If that took you down two gears, both shifts are at about 6,000 RPM.

tl;dr - the transmission TC lock and shift mapping are now MUCH closer to the way they should have been all along. VERY happy with the TSB load.

I had the update done last Friday and drove the hell out of the truck this weekend. Going up and down our short rolling hills on the freeway. No found extra power as expected. But the driveabilty was so much better. When rollong the throttle the acelleration is now linear with the movement of the peddle. Push a little accelerate a little. Do longer discusted with the driveabilty of my truck. Thank you to shif sence for getting Toyota off its ass and leading the way. I am sure with out your product we would still be bitching up a storm. Thank You.

I had tsb done yesterday. Immediately noticed much better shifting and power feel. Lugging 6th gear at 30 mph is gone. Holds gears longer. I have a certain hill I go up every day where I would hold pedal steady and truck would grab 4 th then back to 3rd then 4th 5th then back to 3rd all in 500’. Now it goes 1st2nd 3rd 4th and done. Kinda like a normal transmission should . Almost feels like they turned off the Atkinson cycle . Strangely seems mpg went up a little too. Very happy. Took it in to Burien Toyota. Stated hesitation at altitude. Told them of the known tsb and told them of the overwhelming good feedback. No problems no pushback. Just be (mostly) honest about drive ability issues and say there is a known fix and throw in the “hesitation” aka “safety issue” wording and I don’t see how they could deny it. Very happy!

Had my 2017 done a few days ago. Took the printed the TSB (0058) and walked into the dealer with it. Had an appointment for 30k service and did this at the same time. The service advisor was not aware of this TSB. I think I might be the first one that asked for it. They did not push back at all and said they would look into it. When I picked up the truck, the paper work said the tech test drove, noticed the condition, and did the re-flash. I can see that they did actually drive it to verify as I had a couple extra miles on the odometer. I really didn't like my truck very much before this update. I bought it used from a friend and got such a good deal that I couldn't really pass it up. The transmission was so bad and I would have never bought it new. Now that the TSB is done, the truck drives way better. It's a lot smoother accelerating from a stop, and also smoother when decelerating. Less gear hunting and drives like a normal vehicle now. Had mine done at Gilroy Toyota in CA. Very happy now.

This TSB applies to manuals or AT’s? I tried reading another thread but it was all over the place. V6 and I4? I read that it fixes a stumble?

My 2017 went from being an irritation to feeling like it should, Toyota should be ashamed for releasing a vehicle with SW this poor and taking over two years to resolve it.

I went and got this done at my local dealership and the guys there are great. They were not very familiar with it but I had the printed out tsb and they said no problem. If a dealership is unwilling to do a tsb after asking them to, find another dealership. None of them should give any customers a hard time, if they do tell them you will file a complaint. They say the reason alot of them dont like doing the tsb under warrenty is because toyota shafts the mechanics on pay when performing them. The tsb could say it only takes x amount of time for the job to be completed and in reality its a busy day and they are slammed it could end up taking alot longer, and toyota wont pay them for it. As for the tsb goes I do believe it has improved some things. Im still looking to regear to 4.88s though.
