What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Was supposed to get one last alignment tomorrow 7am. Well i guess that ain't gonna happen!

 

Fabricated and installed under-bedrail tie-down rails which cover front and side walls of the bed.
It was relatively easy to do,, too. Would be super easy if my plasma cutter hadn't started acting up

Why a last alignment? Are you going SAS?

 

You probably wont be able to cycle just one side. Leaf springs are weird and the axle will act different. Plus if your doing the work might as well cycle and setup bump stops and measure for the exact length of shocks needed.

 

Oh, no I wish. One last time until next year. I've had 5 alignments in the past 2 months. 3 of which cause one place didn't know what they were doing. The 4th alignment which was the 1st good one I got after replacing most of the front suspension. 5th alignment I got after tack welding the steering column shaft. I just replaced by leaf bushings with new shackles & super bumps while I was at it, didnxt think it would have but it threw my alignment off a bit.

I'm tired of getting alignments. Still need to replace my LCA bushings but I'll wait till next year along with TREs, then won't have to worry about alignments until as needed normally.

 

If you want to do it the easiest way, remove all but the.main leaf. Fit a tire. Flex the suspension out with a jack (or forklift if you have one). Set the bumps up, then measure the opposite side for shock length. Remember you want your shock about a half inch longer than the absolute maximum of your available articulation. It isn't a terrible idea to use limit straps to protect the shocks. Don't get crazy chasing big numbers.

 

Well, you DID go to a metric 33 after all. .

 

Got to ask, why on earth did you weld your steering shaft?

 

Small tack welds will take away the slop but should still break in case of an accident

 

Had so much steering wheel play I hated driving my truck. With that and replacing the steering rack guide & spring feels like brand new again.

HELP! Spent all day yesterday chasing electrical gremlins. Everything worked until yesterday morning ! ALL the turn signals work Until you step on brake then they Hyper flash also the Same Hyper flash when you turn the park/headlights ON. Hazards are doing the same Hyper flash when you turn on the park/ headlights . ALL bulbs are working! Flasher Relay is clicking & the turn signals/Hazards are working ? NO led lights/ bulbs ! HELP!! Thanks

 

Why not replace the part? Do the job properly. This IS a life-safety issue, after all.

I'd hate for him to find out he'd welded it too well in an otherwise minor accident, when the steering column gets driven through his spine.

 

Thats the mod. You weld it to prevent slop. They all have play

I need to do this and my damn rack bushings
