It was a bitch but I got it. CAI can be plumbed to a snorkel.
I'll post some details tomorrow about the adapter and trimming.

So connecting CAI to snorkel was a pain but it works. The only extra part I needed was a Fernco 1002-43 fitting. It's a rubber reducer fitting that hardware stores should have in the plumbing aisle. One end is about 5-1/4 inch ID, other is about 3-1/2 ID (4" OD). The big end can be slipped over the oval opening of the air box. It seems like a good seal but I stuck some urethane weather stripping to fill the gap under the rubber where the airbox flares out. Maybe not needed but I had it so I did it. Then the smaller side of the Fernco pokes through the fender and fits inside the elbow from the snorkel. I didn't see a good way to clamp the elbow to the rubber fitting. A hose clamp over hard plastic with flexible rubber on the inside won't exactly do much. So, I just ran a thick bead of urethane caulk around the fender hole where the Fernco was sticking out and pressed the elbow into it. Will check in a few days to see if the elbow has stayed in place or not.

You do have to remove screws from the washer fluid reservoir and tip it forward to get the air box in position. Then you can push the reservoir back to its spot. It took some muscle to compress the rubber of the Fernco against the fender a little to get the mounting holes aligned.

    Cutting:
No cutting to the CAI. Only had to cut the Fernco and the elbow fitting from the snorkel.
I had to trim the Fernco at both ends. On the big end, it'll stick out too far and the airbox mounting holes won't align if you don't trim it. On the small end, I really didn't have to trim it but I thought it was sticking too far into the elbow. I think I took roughly 1/4 inch off each end.
The elbow from the snorkel tube needs to be cut too. Otherwise, it's all so long after assembly that it's hitting the inside of the fender and can't be pushed up all the way where it's supposed to go. I cut right along the dirt line to basically remove all of what used to be through the fender hole. In other words, the elbow doesn't pass through the fender anymore. It just sits flush up against it with the rubber piece of the Fernco inside it.

Took a few hours to install mainly because of repeatedly putting the airbox in then removing to trim more of the fernco until I got it right. The instructions from AFE for the CAI were off on a few details too. I had to add or remove washers at 2 of the mounting holes under the airbox to make it tighten down straight. Otherwise, it flexed and the holes for the lid were too far out of alignment.

Driving to work this morning, don't notice anything new under 2000 RPM. Above that it gets increasingly louder. I like the sound of it a lot actually. Deepens the engine sound. Everything else on my engine & exhaust is still stock by the way so the CAI and my tires it basically all I hear.

These pics show test fit of the Fernco. You can see that it makes the elbow stick out pretty far if you don't do any cutting.

I have had this scenario happen to me before. Frustrating without a currrent clamp or something, and none of us have that at home...

So I installed a Ford part on my Tacoma. :anonymous:
Technically it's Spicer/Dana. Center support bearing spec'd for Ranger. It was $26 vs $180 from Toyota dealer.
Made myself an adjustable bracket so I could fine tune driveline angles.
Only went 5 miles so far and up to 60mph.
Got 3 new ujoints in too.
No squealing or shaking at all.:yay:
The rough shake at 45-50 mph that I've had over a year is even gone.

    Wheels swapped, shell sold...

If I hadn't cut the fenders to fit these tires, I'd be able to put stock front bumper back on it. Oh well.

    Still looks good.
    Ready to sell.

    Been gone a few weeks...
Already sold a bunch of the parts that I took off before going to the dealer.

Guess I should make a 4Runner build thread eventually.

Thought I should post this here.

I bought the truck back on July 10, 2018. Roommate and myself are loving the truck. Sitting in the office with a Co-Worker and we were talking about truck parts, found a photo that looked like the Truck. Found it lead me to this form, Kind of fun to see what changes that have been done to the truck and what it looked like...

We took it biking over the weekend and already figuring out how to build a bike rack for the truck bed.

Thought I should post the pictures of when the truck was bought in July.
