"Official" Firestone RideRite + Lift Thread

Did anyone who installed these bags on the TSB leaf pack with daystar cradles with an AAL(I know a lot of variables) noticed a 'metal smacking' when driving over rough roads? I checked everything is tight. Bags are holding air(10psi) but there's this metal on metal clack every time I drive.

 

Check to make sure the lower bolt on your shocks is tight. I've been hearing a similar sound for longer than I'll admit. I thought it was the bag slapping the cradle. My shock was loose and the lower hole is wallowed out...a bit.

Through some dumb luck and being in the right place at the right time. I found that the noise thought to be a loose rear shock or loose bed frame bolt or loose bag set up, or cradle slap. It turns out now that the back sits up a little higher the exhaust hanger is bouncing into my leaf pack. Well one of the new collars on the leaf pack.

Just got my setup done yesterday. Gotta admit, it took me some time as I made custom mounts for the Daystar cradles on top of the u-bolt flip kit.

My set-up is:
-2014 DCLB 4x4
-OME MD Dakars
-Nitrocharger shocsk
-Low-Range U-bolt flip kit
-Firestone 2407 Air Bags
-Daystar cradles with custom mounts

You can't see it here, but I trimmed the inner u-bolts so the custom cradle bracket could sit flushly and bolt to the u-bolt flip bracket. The outside u-bolts don't interfere with anything, so for lots of reasons, I left them stock length:








And here's the only shots I have of the brackets before install. The wire feed on my 19 year old Lincoln SP-135P was really acting up providing a super inconsistent feed speed. It's been acting up for years, but it really pissed me off that day. As a result, welds aren't great but hope they're burly enough to do the job. Either way, once I recover from the credit card shock from this build, it's time for a new welder.





So far, I'm pleased. Driver side bag doesn't appear to be holding air overnight so I've gotta figure out what gives there, but once the bugs are worked out, I feel this will be a really versatile setup.

 

PS-I'm not 100% certain I'm in love with the push-to-seal air line connectors. I was really careful to cut square with the hose cutter pictured below but have a leak somewhere in my driver-side system. The right angle elbow fittings are as tight as I feel brass should be so I don't think it's there. Either way, how would you guys go about bullet-proofing this set-up as I've never really played with air fittings and the push-to-seal just doesn't seem right to me?

 

You'll be happy with this setup. I kinda wish I went with the MD Dakars, since I already had the air bags.

 

I'm with you on that concern. I also had a leak, but discovered that one of the push-to-seal connections wasn't pushed all the way in. No leaks since then. Water lines to refrigerators, even house plumbing now can be had with the same sort of connections. Must be I'm getting old and don't trust these newfangled things.

 

Try removing your valve cores and cleaning or replacing them. I had a bum one that slow leaked.

 

That's a good tip. I tried that on my leaky driver side. The valve core remover I have has a little valve core tap. It threaded out a few small brass shavings. I also removed the line there and re-cut it and inserted with a little grease. It helped. System holds 30psi for about 2 days now instead of going flat in an hour.

I used the soapy water spray method and couldn't detect a leak. I plan on re-cutting the bag side today and adding some Teflon tape to the fitting.

 

I still have a pretty slow leak. Few lbs a week. Pretty sure it was those fittings too, with their already applied sealant. I didnt use anymore, as i thought i should have. Then the angle i had to stop turning them, to allow line to mount, left them slightly loose. I suspect slow leak for me is there. I should remove an add some tape or dope, as well. One day, lol

 

I just ran out before work and Teflon taped the driver's fitting. I had some extra hose, too, and just replaced the driver's side length of it.

Going camping in the San Rafael Swell this weekend with the 6' bed loaded with gear. Fingers crossed!

 

Just bought my bags today!!!!! With the bikes, trailer, and Yamaha sxs, I’m losing 3-3.5 inches of rear height. Going to install them tomorrow At work

 

Don'y cut the bumps. Big freakin' mess. Loosen the Ubolts and slip 'em out.

 

You'll love them. I was losing a lot trailering my tractor or zero turn, not to mention my TW200 on the hitch carrier. +1 on just removing the bump stops.

 

Installed!! I took an air chisel to the bump stops. Easy

Laziness took over. Undo the ubolts, or bust out the air hammer with a chisel bit and go to town... air chisel time!!!!!!
