Let’s see those AMP power steps

Will these work as rock sliders too or will that ruin them

 

Guys im in on these but in another members double cab pic it looks like the running board is shorter than the ones on either of your trucks. Did amp start making them longer for double cabs? Did u guys center them more? Is it pic & my ocd?

I think they look pretty good length wise, not sure there is any difference between second and third gen.

How they been working for you?

 

I really like them. Been kicking around the idea of selling them and going with the N-fab steps but have not made up my mind yet.

 

I like these and was also wondering how they would hold up off roading if you hit a rock. I know they won't be as good as sliders just wondering if anyone has had any real world experience with them in the wild.

 

I take my truck to Baja and a lot of the off road races here in CA and NV. I don't beat on my truck by any means, but the dirt and dust was my concern. I just lube the joints every month or two. No issues since install.

I centered mine up. The instructions have them more to the front, but that just didn't look right to me.

 

Ok, if u were able to center em, im good. I thought they HAD to be installed all the way forward. Was freakin me out maaaaannnnnnn.....

Do the bracket ends that attach to runningboard have a slot or channel for the board to be adjusted? Or did u self tap, and made em centered?

 

It is a channel, you can slide them into place. I assume the suggested placement has something to do with weight distribution when standing on them, but everyone that gets into my truck steps right at the mount points to the motor and harness.

 

They aren’t worth the money IMO.

My drivers side has officially broken. I had to close the door and quickly jam them in and then had to unplug them so the step would stay up.

Mine are 5 years old. I kept them regularly lubed but I could tell they would eventually fail. I’m not the original owner so I can’t get them fixed under warranty.

Unfortunately I’m going to have to cut them off

Dam pak. That sucks. U live round salt, sand, snow, dirt, heat, cold? U think that might have been a factor. Or just not a robust design?

 

I do live in a salt state. I will give you that but I keep my truck detailed all year round.
I physically clean the steps and lube the hindges on them.
I just could feel the motor wasn’t going to hold up well.

The passenger side was fine (that side was not as routinely used) but the driverside motor just failed.

 

I've had them for several years. They seem to work OK. I wish they disappeared underneath.

 

Here are the AMP powersteps on 2nd Gen. I still think it was one of the better purchases I've made because of the added lift on my truck and my 5yr old and 3yr old can climb in and out of the back.

I did not like the appearance of the original stepboards and opted for the longer/flatter look of the stepboard with the stainless steel trim. The upgraded board(s) didnt change any of the gaps and I think it looks much cleaner because it extends from front fender to rear fender and looks slimmer.

Sucks that the manufacturer doesnt allow it to be an upgrade to the Tacoma kit and requires a separate purchase of the S/S boards.

I've had the kit installed for about 4 years now and live in a moderate climate with no winter salt/etc...

I have had a part fail (long pinion gear looking thing) that rendered the steps useless. Without the boards dropping down, i missed them everytime i had to enter/exit my truck. Replacement part was $40 and i had the boards working again in 30 mins.
