I brought home the ‘17 on Nov 17th. On day 3 of ownership I did the H11 to H9 swap and was quite pleased with the “mod” for $20. The VLED Micro caught my eye however and I wanted to give them a try. Their Black Friday sale helped seal the deal. I do like the aesthetics of LED output and I’m no stranger to them as our ‘17 MDX is full LED.

    Impressions:
Nearly identical to the naked eye. Spread is about the same. Hotspots are similar however I think the H9 puts a bit more light down on the road a few lengths out in front of the truck.

Either bulb provides ample light. Just a matter of halogen vs LED. You can visibly see the warmth the halogens produce over the LED. For $20 the H9 bulb mod is very budget friendly.

My apologies if this is a duplicate, however a search did not reveal a comparison of these two bulbs.

For anyone that’s curious, here’s the MDX output on the same road from 10 months ago.

Have a link? I’m interested in swapping my headlights and fogs too.

What bulbs did you use for your H9s? H9 bulb life is pretty short compared to all other bulbs, since it is a high beam bulb. For this reason I would recommend a standard or even long life bulb (long life will pay a minor performance penalty), and avoid performance bulbs or coated bulbs which would further reduce the bulb life.

While both those light mods work in the projector housing, neither are solutions for the reflector for housing. It will result in glare from the H9s or glare and scatter from the LEDs.

I used the standard Philips H9 regular life bulb. They were $10 a peice on Amazon.

Glad I found this thread. Was going to pull the trigger on the 'ultimate head light mod', Rally Lights harness with 90W flosser's. What is selling me here is the plug and play, long life span of LED's and from your pics not much difference in beam pattern. Which lights did you replace, highs, lows or both? I'll be going with amber KC G4's in my fogs. Thanks!

LEDs in the lows. Halogens in the highs
Recently put G4s in the fogs and they are outstanding!! You won’t regret it.

Stuck with LEDs in the lows just for a longer lifespan? The light output looks incidental from the pictures, which brand bulb and color for the halogens (5k, 6k etc)?

The light output is very similar, you're correct, and with that I stuck with the LEDs purely for aesthetics. I like the cooler temp of the LEDs. If I drove in massive amounts of poor weather conditions at night, then I would have likely stuck with the H9 Halogens.

I used to do the h9 mod. Definitely an improvement over the h11. Life is short though.

I run a vled micro knock off as well that I plan to sell. Got a free set that’s even better output.
