So I might have missed it, but has anyone sifted through this thread and figured out which company is considered by the majority of TW members as making the best skid plate/plate set for the price? I'm looking for a full plate set (including coverage for lower control arms) and would rather be off-road than surfing the web looking for accessories...

Would like a set that is relatively hefty for the price - I can relocate the exhaust (would rather do that than lose lift), can paint my own plates, prefer to access oil pan for oil changes without dropping the plate. Any suggestions?

^^^THIS. Skids have been done for a while now and they are all pretty great quality and made of roughly the same materials. Some will have minor differences but saving on shipping will likely be the factor!

Can’t say I would reccomend pelfrey if you actually wheel your truck and use the skids..
T case skid is extremely bent after another trip (after this photo) and pretty much useless

damn, good justification to go with the BAMF 1/4" skids...

The reinforced 3/16" from Mobtown are great as well. I wheel the hell outta my truck, constantly bashing my armor and it takes it in stride.

edit: wait we're talking about t-case. That one they don't offer reinforced, but I've had both their rerouted and stock exhaust t case skid and they take a beating. Maybe it's the way it's designed.

So in light of all the Labor Day sales.. What are peoples opinions on steel (3/16") vs aluminum (1/4")? I've heard that Al isn't quite as beefy, especially when it comes to gouging. But the weight savings is incredible. Less than half the weight of 3/16 steel, and typically only $75-$100 more, aluminum seems like a really good way to go.

All depends on your use. If you ever plan on wheeling in rocks, get steel. The weight savings isn’t that much (maybe 70 lbs?) but with it distributed over such a large area and having it so low you wouldn’t even notice the difference.

Plus I'd like to say it helps bring center of gravity lower on the vehicle.

Got this new battle scar from my most recent trip. Aluminum would not have fared well. If anyone plans on using their skids vs having them as an “oh shit” moment saver, go steel.
