Had a good meet up with a dude today who had hand controls installed for his handicapped wife. He showed me the set-up, levers for throttle on the right and brake lever on the left of the steering wheel. Really cool set-up with lock out for non-handicapped. You could change between the handlevers and regular throttle brake pedal by a push of a button.

Anybody else have something like this?

If so, let's see your pics. Unfortunately, I didn't think to take one.

    Stuff, things, this, an ADS
My buddy lost his legs in war and had a special van all tricked out for him. He had the levers for breaking and acceleration. But only he could operate it. The switch thing would be awesome. He also had no drivers seat is wheel chair just locked into place. Pretty bad ass.

This was cool, you can enter a code into a keypad to disable the brake and gas pedal. Just in case you hit something by accident.

Back in the day (late 70's) I had a friend that was paralyzed from the waist down. Diving accident and I was there. Anyway, every time he would get a new or different car I would install his hand controls. Talk about simple - it was a lever that mounted on the steering column that had two rods running from the control. One went to brake pedal and one went to the throttle. You twisted the lever (eccentric cam) to apply throttle and pulled the lever towards you to brake. We just moved the same control to the newer car.

Would that be the same today, or is it more of a computer operated module because of the fly-by-wire installed on our throttles? Sorry, don't understand these systems that well. Plus being able to change between the two different systems might make a difference??

Ok, I see it now. That's pretty old school compared to what this dud had. His was all controlled through the computer throttles and brakes. Very cool system that had dual systems for both handicapped and for himself that wasn't handicapped. He could change back and forth depending on who was driving the truck. Very cool system indeed!
