Depends on the intended use of the vehicle.

My daily driver Honda is a 6 speed.

My Tacoma that I use tobtow a 5000 travel trailer is an automatic. No I would not change to a stick in my situation.

I love manual transmissions, but I don't like the way this engine has to rev combined with the gearing on the manual. I have a 3 on tree on my F100, so I at least still have a manual of some sort.

The #1 reason I bought this truck was the available manual transmission.

The only downside of CC is if you’re in a situation where you actually need it, it’s great, but at all other times it just makes a lot of crazy braking noise and is not a relaxing experience. You can’t impres your friends with it on level ground. It kinda requires “shitting-pants terrain” to shine.

Have the auto because at the time, had another "fun car" (6mt f80 m3). Ended up selling the M because I didn't drive it much...now wishing I got the 6mt taco. Even after the latest TSB, the transmission software is ok at best.

The funny part about this thread is that 75% of the MT posters are over the top enthusiastic. There's one person that is passionate about the AT's buzzy gizmos. That tells the story right there.

I've seen MTS / CC in action. It was cool voodoo but still not enough to slog it out in a slush box.

For me, I prefer MTs in shitty commute traffic.

Had manuals for years, wasn't impressed with 3rd generation manual test drive. Auto now no regrets.

    Reasons people buy AT:

    - They were conned by a salesman ( No MT on the lot, so they push the surplus of AT trucks hard at consumers)
    - They justify being a lemming because of "traffic"
    - They pee sitting down

I love driving my MT. Shifts easy and is super smooth. But if I'm 100% honest I wouldn't mind an AT at times. Test drove an AT and it was ANNOYING. Up-shift, downshift, up-shift, downshift... on flat highway at 65mph. Drove me crazy in a 20 minute test drive. The salesman even said that they were "different" and that he'd had guys bring them back and trade into a MT or a Tundra because of the goofy shifting of the AT. Now with the updates to the ECU I understand it drastically improves but I only drive 3 miles to work so I don't sit in traffic at all and the MT suits my purposes fine. But I'd really like to have remote start. I was spoiled with that on my 2016 Camaro SS and miss it. Other than that it is a fun MT to drive. No real regrets, but I wouldn't mind just dropping it in D sometimes and go.

I love my manual tranny but I must admit it has become a pain. Not a pain for myself I love being in control and shifting when I want. But on long trips my gf can't drive so it leaves me driving 8+ hours when if I had an auto we could take turns......

There is a fix for that you know.

Or you could teach her to drive it.

This was tough for me, when I was looking to purchase last year. The dealership had both. I've had mostly manual cars and motorcycles. Used to race a bit back in the day. Also had a manual 1st Gen Tacoma. So I'm a manual guy at heart. But this time, I went auto. Main reason? Convenience. Traffic, sitting in long lines when I drop my kids off at school, not having my calves quake and shake hitting the clutch after a 30 mile run, etc.

There are times during the week I wish for a manual. There are times that I'm glad for an auto. I stacked them both up, and for my uses, auto had the edge. No regrets.

Trust me I gave some solid lessons. Pulling out isn't the issue but dumping the clutch when shifting is another story....

Practice on gravel roads, or on the beach till she gets it.

Taught my son this way in short order.

I'm giving you credit for being the only one really passionate about the AT and the features that come with it. For whatever reason, the MT folks are a vocal minority. But, it seems to bring out the desire to drive. More than just manage the truck along the road.

CC / MTS is a true tool. I just don't feel the need to put up with the down side for me, the AT that it comes with. I realize that CC / MTS could not work on an MT without roasting the clutch in a very short time.

Reread my posts, from the start of the thread. Where do you get “passionate” about AT? I said a dozen times otherwise. Anyways.....reading is a skill, and takes time.

My only point about CC is it works awesome. Not a general statement about the AT.
