Could certainly spin 1 tire in the snow with an LSD, it's not a fully locked diff. Just a bit of resistance between the 2 tires.
That could be the case as well, they become less effective over time as they get looser and looser.

Thanks for the input; I could buy that. I have to change the clutch pack on my motorcycle; I would think 2 smaller clutch packs in a diff would also need to be changed at some point. I hope there’s a write-up on how to service an LSD.

    ....back to Google....

    I've got a 2015 SR5 4WD, I'm assuming this is an open different?

The only Tacos with factory mechanical limited slip differentials were 2005-2008 Sport TRDs, as far as I have heard. The electronic/ ABS limited slip traction control was added to all Tacoma's since 2009.

If you go to the dealer to buy fluid be careful about what they recommend as some parts guys aren’t the best. I have a 2012 and he tried telling me I need the LSD fluid because the computer said I have an electronic lsd differential, which is different then a true lsd. Electronic lsd is controlled through the computer by using the brakes, and does not require the special lsd fluid, which from Toyota is twice as expensive as normal diff fluid. If you have this sticker above your fill plug then you have a lsd. Anything can happen, but I think the odds of the sticker coming off are slim. It looks like one of those aluminum sticker tabs.upload_2018-12-5_12-40-14.jpg

Mobil 1 synthetic gear oil is rated for all differentials, including limited slip ones (which were ONLY in Sport TRDs fro 2005-2008).
