Manual is the only one to get. Had manual not been an option a Tacoma wouldn't have been a consideration.

In my opinion, ironically, this is proof to me that the 3rd Gen MT love is little fragile. Seems like a lot of self-justification for something that might actually be annoying at times, or poorly designed.

In my life, I have noticed that when something is somewhat sucky, people spend a lot of time boosting it. For example, I know people who moved to a nice community with a shitty commute. When you meet them, they tell you “and the commute isn’t that bad”, without even asking about the commute. I am starting to think the 3rd Gen Taco MT might be as lame a duck as the AT. The banter in the MT thread seems to back this up.

Hmmm......not entirely convinced 3rd Gen MT is the way anymore. Could be more 3rd Gen Kool-Aid.

Welp. So much for trying to give you some credit.

I'd buy this same Taco again. Never a doubt in my mind.

    Have a good one.

Had a 17 auto, after enough road trips in 11 months I decided she had to go, picked up an 18 manual. More low end, thanks to gearing, and with the recent tsb more power throughout the rpm band. Especially where I feel it needs more, sub 3000rpm. MT is better imo.

You can buy whatever you want, who gives a shit? Some people need a manual for towing, burned up too many auto trans. The biggest issue with auto trans is fluid coupling and under heavy loads auto trans slip, some a lot. That's why a vast majority of semi trucks are manuals.

The reason more passenger vehicles are going to AT every year is not because it's a better technology, it's because most people cannot drive a manual along with us being fatass lazy americans. Plus a few more reasons to get you to the dealer to charge you extra and trade up for a newer model which you pay the depreciation every time.

The whole point of this thread is us being ASKED if we like the MT!

Nobody is trying to "justify" anything, we were asked for opinions...

I drive an MT. Test drove an auto, didn't like how it ran... geared to high for my needs. I'm not going to poo poo on anybody that doesn't want to row a stick, because sometimes I don't want to either. I've said it before and I'll say it again... if Toyota had kept the 5 speed auto from the 2nd gen, this truck would be incredible.

But as it is, the auto I drove couldn't hold 70 in high gear going into a stiff wind. I've already had one truck do that and I hated it.

As it is, had the MT not been available in the 3rd gen, I'd have had to find another brand.

Or, they prefer better off road capabilities not influenced by the need to hold their stick.

Had many of each type. Auto MUCH better for off road from 45 years of experience with some of each.

Feel no need to have a truck that drives itself. I do a fine job of that myself. Switched off nanny controls.

I bought the manual because I associate Toyota Pickups/Tacoma's with a manual gear box. If I was to get into an auto I would have gone with a 1/2-3/4 ton or found a used LC.

I'd agree with you, but then we'd BOTH be wrong.

Nothing to do with easy. I'm not a millennial. It's about being the BEST and having what it takes to be best.

Need look no further than high dollar purpose built off road vehicles where either type of drive train is an option.....ie Ultra 4's, Rock bouncers, Monster trucks, etc....95% go with auto's. Driver input is needed from manual AND auto. Certain skills are required for success with each. Neither are exactly rocket science. At this stage in my life, I just want what does the best job and is the most dependable. Not even a contest in my world.
