I think I bricked my ECU doing the B04 update..[OVTune Fixed it!!!]

Uh oh.. incoming mad rush for tunes again. Alpha thread will get bonkers.. well, more bonkers.

It's behind the glove box. Need to pop the end cap trim and trim piece between that and the glove box off, remove the lower passenger airbag, then remove glovebox. Engine ECU is the right most box with 6 connectors.

 

Just updated mine! Followed all but the first guideline below. Ill be honest i was nervous as fuck and if I didnt know that @OVTune had the capabilities to "unBrick" an ECU, I probably would have chickened out. Thanks OP for posting your ordeal and the path to fix.

Don’t use hacked versions of Techstream for an ECU update.

Don’t use a virtual machine environment to do an ECU update.

Don’t use Bluetooth or WiFi dongles for an ECU update. (USB only)

Do turn off Windows update service. Note - My flashing laptop never sees the internet. Files are transferred via USB stuck. WiFi function is turned off.

Do turn off Windows system sleep functionality. Use the “always on” setting in power management pane.

Do turn off USB power management for the USB port you’re using.

Do plug the laptop into a wall outlet. Note - I used to do this, but the laptop is always fully charged as I only use it for flashing.

Do hook up a battery maintainer to the vehicle during an ECU update. This isa good idea, but I daily my truck so the battery is always topped off.

Do turn off all electrical consumers during ECU update.

Did you ever determine what it was that bricked it? I just flashed mine today and was pie

 

nope. My best guess is the voltage dropped or it was my VM connection. I'd have to brick it a few more times to prove it.

Man. It's so binary. If I had a way to unbrick it I'd do a bunch of trials but I'm askuurd now.

 

Got the ECU back from Mat today. I'm at work. Will install this evening and post back.
