You mt fanbois are missing one important advantage to sticks. Navagation in groups off road...... All I have to do is hang back and follow the smell of burnt clutch.

Year's ago on a Sunday night I was in the middle of BFE Kentucky and my starter decided to go bad, sure was nice to be able to push my car to get it started.

The good thing about auto’s that you forgot is that as you trail behind manuals, you have a free hand to wipe your tears. Lol!!!

My dad had an 07 turbocharged X-runner, lowered 3” with the 6-speed manual. That thing was fun as hell to drive (especially gapping corvettes) and you can blow through the gears nicely. I wish they would’ve done it with the LB’s!

I learned to drive on my dad's Caprice, and it just felt gutless with how shitty the auto was at shifting when I needed power. I've hated ATs ever since. I still have yet to drive an AT that doesn't leave me angry (though one of them was an HHR, which is just a shitty vehicle to begin with). All the vehicles I've owned have been 5 speed MTs, though I'm really curious how the 3rd Gen Taco 6MTs feel to drive.
It's mostly personal preference in the end, so just drive what you enjoy.

There's plenty you don't control on the vehicle.

It's preference. Get what you think you'll be happiest with.

Bought a Manual cause by the next time i'm ready for something new there might not be an option. So all you people who that say they love manual's and then don't buy them cause you hate driving in traffic or some other inconvenience are just giving manufactures more reasons to stop making them. Will always buy another manual as long as they are still available. Plus its a pretty good anti-theft device. SAVE THE MANUALS!!!!

Auto, because I don't give a shit. If I was xXxINSTAOVERLANDERxXx then ya, I'd get a manual, but I'm not. If I run into anything I can't handle then I fucked up a long time ago

My only experience with a manual tacoma is when I test drove a used 16 sport 4x4 during a service once. I found it clunky. Between the weird throttle engagement and rev hang I would have went mad driving it. My FJ was a stick and it was garbage. That being said, Toyota has continued to improve both the Auto and Manual trucks since they have been released so maybe it's better.

I would like the smoothness of the autos bottom end and the gear holding ability of the manual at highway speeds. My truck isn't one of the shift happy ones you hear of here, but nothing beats a manual in this regards. I'd also like the auto's ability to back up a hill.

Most here would want it the other way with the manuals direct feeling on acceleration and the auto's lower rpm on cruising, but my experience towing a trailer through some mountains left me thinking otherwise.

Either way, buy what you want and leave others to theirs.

    Adding fuel to the fire...

The only *real* advantage a MT provides over a AT is driver engagement, and even that could be opinionated. Modern autos just does everything a human can, but better.

Not directed at you, but on that kindling, I will say that I just don't give a rip if an AT (CVT, DC, slushbox, or sequential) can do it better. Any sweet little performance car is just uninteresting if it doesn't have an MT. So for me, there isn't an interesting new Ferrari and Lambo or most Porsches (beyond the fact that P cars are just bloated compared to the good old days). I can't even guess how many times I looked in a window and was turned off by the lack of third pedal. I'd rather drive a slow-ass Taco or miata than an AT anything, esp on the performance end. That's just me though.

Besides, driver engagement is the only *real* advantage that I want. Compared to not long ago, all the cool NVH is gone from just about every car and truck. I aspire to NVH. Just ask my wife.

I think you're confusing Auto with SMG. The SMG is a manual transmission that shifts automatically. THAT is the transmission that is commonly referred to as being able to shift better and faster than any human can.

That being said, the Auto trans in the Tacoma is a pile of dog shit and isnt anywhere near an SMG.

    Another plus point for MT:

MT is cheaper than AT when new, more valuable than AT when selling used.
