Anyone get pushback when going to get this done? I just went to a dealer in Bakersfield (dropped in - no appointment) they claim “well we don’t perform TSB at your request, we’ll have to duplicate the issue, and then if we can duplicate the issue, we will do it)

Not sure I want some asshole smashing down the freeway in my truck, then coming back with a “Nope, couldn’t replicate that issue” However I made an appointment to come back in the morning to have a tech ride along with me.. Not getting the warm and fuzzy from this dealer however most service advisors I’ve talked to in the past are clueless about the truck anyways.

Update** reading back through the thread a few posts I see this is a common theme..

I should note that I have the TRD CAI and Borla cat back. I also use 93 ethanol or 90 non-ethanol. All of that made a difference before getting the 62-18 update, especially the CAI. I think a lot of the surging and 'missing' is related to the ridiculous resonance chamber on the intake.

Well peeps- got the truck back and drove it around in the city, highway and mountains. It feels like driving with ECT on, holds gears just right and improved gas mileage. I don't have a lift or CAI. Only upgrade I have are KO2 tires and using the low grade gasoline. Hopefully others see same results as I did.

My fuel mileage is doing as good or better than before the TSB. The truck has learned my driving again and is shifting better than before. I hope everyone has the same results.
Today’s round trip to work...I can’t complain at all about fuel economy.

Went into my local dealership yesterday and gave them the TSB bulletin with my VIN # on it. They had my truck for 3 hrs and then call me and tell me that they cannot duplicate the issue and they cannot perform the update. He said i could come back in this week and go on a test drive with a technician. I explained that the amount of time it will take me to go through all of that will be much longer than if they just simply did the update. He stated that they would love to perform the TSB because they make money from Toyota off of it but if he updates it and the truck did not need it then it could create issues on my truck that would not have existed. He made it seem like he was looking out for me but i think its just Bullshit! I'm going to try another dealership, i can't believe they push back on helping us with this!

You can play the game with the mechanic, and agree that the truck is driving as Toyota designed it. Tell them you prefer the truck not shift early as the eco-mode settings, and you’re certain the shifting can not be any worse than now. My truck is actually shifting so normally now I just can’t believe Toyota is going this direction.

BTW a TSB from Toyota should never hurt or change your truck in a bad way.

    Good luck

Yep same exact thing happened to me, looks like they drove it for 3 miles and said they couldn't duplicate it so it was a no go. I explained that i have driven it for 16,000 miles so i think i would have a better idea about how it drives than you doing 3 miles around the block. Seems like it would just be easier for them to do it then to give us so much shit trying to get it done!

I'm just worried that im going to have to take time out of work to do this test drive with the guy who is going to argue with me anyways, i think going to a different dealer i would have more luck. Anyone in San Diego had this done?

That’s right. The mechanics viewpoint will never be the same as the owners. They told me the exact same thing. There’s nothing “wrong” with our trucks, we just don’t like eco mode driving. You’re wise to find another dealership.

So I had this done a couple weeks back. When I went into the dealership I told them it "stalled out" off the bottom when accelerating and at WOT off the start......and damn near killed my kids and I! We almost got t-boned due to this issue! HE said they would have to "duplicate" it. I advised them regardless of what they find, this is happening and I need it taken care of as this truck drives my kids around!!!! They had my truck all day, and when I got back he said they couldnt "duplicate" the issue but did the TSB anyway. I DO NOT have a sticker anywhere on my truck that says this was done. The weird thing is when I picked up the truck, he kind've whispered it to me as If they/he would get in trouble for telling me they couldnt duplicate the issue but did it anyway?? I thought all TSB or recalls would require them to put the sticker on saying it done?? SOP right? That being said, since the so-called TSB I have noticed a huge difference off the start, power, shifting etc. NO stall or lag off the start anymore, the gears are holding the "gear" it is in longer and not as shifty...but then again I dont have any real proof it was actually done besides what the Service manager told me and how it drives now.....wah,wah!

I brought in the PDF from Toyota for the 62. It really was weird how they acted when I picked it up...hush,hush. So maybe they arent supposed to do it if they cant duplicate and dont put the sticker on if it wasnt a "legit" finding!?

I know people are saying it doesn't matter if you get 58 or 62, as they both result in the same ECU calibration number (or something like that).

That said, are people seeing the same positive results with 58 as they are with 62?

If that was the case, wouldn't they be better off simply stating that they duplicated the issue and updated it.

You would think so! The fact that they didnt put the sticker on weirds me out a little. Ha!

I never got the 58, so I couldnt comment on that.

The TSB’s are superseded by the latest version. The 62 superseded the 58 & 77. So that’s what the foreman told me. Sounded legit.

Haha yeah. I always get an adversarial vibe from these “service advisor” types because I come into a dealer (very rarely) I know exactly what I want done and I’m not one to entertain the BS. So after 3 hours of sitting at the dealership the guy comes and says the tech couldn’t replicate the issue (GO FIGURE) but they went ahead and applied the TSB anyways.. Fast forward another 30 minutes, get the paperwork and the service notes says applied T-SB 0077-16, the TSB That was out out 2 years ago. I went to a dealership the day after it was put out (service records says 7/16) to have applied however this dealership in Bakersfield says that they actually didn’t apply it?

Anyways I have a sit down with the service manager here to express that this is precisely the reason why I’m skeptical of having maintenance performed (or not, claiming it was) on my truck at Toyota dealerships. I showed him the T-SB 0062-18 printout and T-SB 0058-18, and then reviewing the TSB-0077-16– he claims they are ALL the same ECU file and that all the upgrades are lumped into that one update. Although I’m already thinking he’s full of shit at this point, can anyone or any Toyota techs out there confirm this? Why would toyota wait 2 years to put out another T-SB with different verbiage that more than likely many of us have already had applied in the past that still experience transmission shifting and throttles surges that are all over the place?

Even after the service manager pulled my service record and confirmed that the dealership in the Bay Area never did the update he says “well not all dealerships are bad” But I’ve never been to one that wasn’t. skepticism confirmed.

So the 62 file has updates not contained therein of 58 and 77? Or all is the same update?

The mechanic foreman told me the latest update 62 included the 58 & 77 and a few more updates. He also said his computer couldn’t do the 58 or 77 anymore due to TSB 62.

Hopefully a Toyota mechanic on TW will verify this.

So if you go in for a "surge" (tsb 58) they're gonna give you a tsb for "dead spot at WOT" (tsb 62)?

I understand they're apparently the same calibrarion update. But you're reasoning doesn't make sense to me (I'm not arguing, just trying to understand how this works). Would a tech looking for a "surge" TSB just decide "hey let's do the dead pedal one" because it's newer"?
