    So is it just another of the same or a completely different compressor from what we all have stock?

    I was told that the compressor has to hold more oil. I don't believe the stock ones installed were sized appropriately.

    I have the same issue.18 DCSB TRDOR premium package. 3800 miles. I too find it somewhat annoying even with the music turned up. Time to take it to my dealer and be heard. Thanks for all the posts and updates. Much appreciated.

    I purchased my 2017 SR 5 A/T this December and did not notice the howling in post #32 until it got warm enough to turn on A/C. The howling is intermittent but worst when it is hotter out. Im at dealership now and they've confirmed the sound and want my truck for a detailed review. They've agreed that it is A/C related but don't know why. I'll let them know this seems to be a widespread issue.

    I'll provide an update if I get one

    As a follow-up to my previous comment on this thread I can report that taping the lower control arm holes and removing the heat shield bolt did not solve my problem. I am uncertain as to next steps. Looking forward to hearing back from smatranaga on his experience w/ swapping the a/c compressor.

    I took it in last night. Toyota has their western regional tech representative at the dealer today to work with the Shop Foreman on the issue. A new compressor has arrived along with oil. They told me that Toyota is struggling with this issue. I will have an update in a couple of days. The Service Manager told me that there are no guarantees at this point that the new compressor will resolve the issue. They will most likely issue a service bulletin once they pin the issue down.

    Update: Dealership has had my truck for three days. They are sure that the compressor was short on oil when it left the factory. They are replacing more parts besides the compressor. I am hoping it will be ready tomorrow. If so, I have a three hour drive in hot weather. I will not use my radio and see if there is any further noise. It may not be ready until the first of the week. Either way, I will provide another update tomorrow.

    Fixed!! Toyota kept my truck for a full week with a Toyota Technician from the Factory present. I was told that there were only two dealers in Northern California who have worked on the fix, with my dealer being one of them. I did not hear any noise this afternoon from the Dealer to my Hotel. Friday will be the big test. Toyota is extremely confident that the issue lies with a low oil supply in in the air conditioning system. Toyota will be looking at the manufacturer and date of manufacture for to find out which trucks to recall for repair. If you have issues, go to your dealer letting them know that you have this problem. I told the Service Manager that there were issues with at least 2017 and 2018 trucks. I give Toyota High Marks for their Service and Dedication in getting this issue resolved. Credit also goes to the customers who have taken their Taco in for this issue.

    No idea. The more people that take their trucks in with the problem, the sooner it will be issued.

    If this turned out to be a lack of oil, then I worry for the longetivity of this a/c system. Oil starvation is never a good thing with a/c compressors. I hope they get out a tsb soon before we have systems full of glitter, needing a flush.

    I will be mentioning this issue with my dealer on the 10k service.

    Thank you for your persistence with this issue. This is truly a pressing issue with low oil.
