i do a lot of city driving driving and just put on some 285/75/16 KO2s so what pressure have you found to get the best mpg for those who commute a lot?

    thanks

You put on big heavy tires. You drive in the city. That combination will kill mpg. Air pressure is not going to help. Sorry.

I run 38psi in C-load KO2. Seems to be a good mix of traction, handling and mpg. Just my .02 :)

Yes. Do you wonder why city mpg is less than highway? I mean, you go slower right?
What sucks the gas is the acceleration of unsprung mass from rest. You increased that substantially and it happens at every stoplight. You use a lot less energy maintaining speed than you do accelerating the mass from rest to desired velocity.
Good luck but 16 is about right.

I’d at least consider tire wear, saving a few dollars on gas won’t seem like much if your prematurely replacing tires. Air them up to suit the trucks weight.

Aside from regearing, there's not much you can do.

I do have to say - on the K02s (E rated unfortunately), i was running 38 psi cold for the last 30K miles and just recently dropped them to 32/33 cold and the ride is significantly better. This may be due to them beginning to wear and A/Ts always seem to ride much rougher as they wear. I'm sure this will hurt my mileage a bit, but worth it IMO.

I have the c load 285 70 17 ko2s, run them at 36 according to chalk test, mpgs, probably around 16 city, 19 hwy if I'm careful with the pedal

I have 255/85/16 load D coopers at 30 psi per chalk test.

You will gain massive mpg by adjusting your driving style. Much more so than a few more psi will get you. I can get over 20 mpg city (adjusted for tire size) by simply avoiding jack-rabbit starts, timing the stop lights, and conservative shift points (mt).

While all the other cars (presumably driven by “environmentalists” - I’m in Berkeley) are seemingly blowing through fuel in a race to the next red light, I’m casually nudging along at about 1400 rpm right at the speed limit, which is almost always the speed for which the traffic signals are calibrated. The more you brake, the worse your mpg.
