    Hey guys!
I was wondering if any of you have any experience with remote starters.
Ive got a 2018 automatic tacoma sr5 (without push to start) and was seaching on Amazon for a remote start kit but could only find the kits that work with push to start tacomas. Does anyone have any experience with remote starters specifically for the tacomas? And if there isnt one specifically for the non-push to start tacomas, can anyone recommend some universal remote starters and how i would go about installing one?

Only one I know of that works with the H-key is the Fortin Evo One. They have a plug in harness now. Only have to cut 1 wire and that is optional. Have to cut that wire for oem remote to work when running. Could leave it uncut and get long range remote kit if you wanted.

I have the Evo one but they didn’t have the harness then, plus a little extra wiring for my manual trans.

@jmeitz gets first dibs, great guy and friend. If he wants to pass, I got you on the same. I am not undercutting him, just an extra source of for 2 reasons and 2 reasons only:

    1. He’s hibernating
    2. He passes you to me.

In which case I will still call his celly and ask him if he’s ok with it haha.

That’s forum ethics baby! Let me know by PM’ing me your cell if you want to get a head start on this route. Same products. If he allows, I can also look at a plug n play option for you. I do have almost plug n play sources. I think h-key requires a wire or two to be spliced as opposed to a whole harness but there are instruction we can provide you no matter WHO you get it from.

I just ordered mine from 12voltsolutions I have the push button start but they did have the plug and play for the key as well. Just have to splice into one wire.

I got the one that works with factory remote and find it’s not that useful for me as the range is pretty weak and this is my own fault for not considering this limitation more in advance of purchase . Now if it’s just for starting from inside your house before you go to the driveway and hop in your truck it’s probably fine for you but if range is a consideration like say your office is over 300 ft from your parking spot, I’d look into something with more capability.

That said the one J Meitz sells is super easy to install and works well for the range limitation. No complaints on how he provided the product and his customer service was top notch.

Sorry, not hibernating just saw this thread. I can do as mentioned above push start or hkey for the remote starters. The 3x is as only as good as your remote range. For some that is perfect, other like to have the cell option to have the unlimited range, assuming you dont own a flip phone. I can do either of those as well. $160 for the cell option.

It works, just buggy. Automobility has identified the issue and is working on a fix. It does not impact all users though.

Just got my remote start from @jmeitz
I stopped by and met him and not only did he quickly install my remote start but answered all my questions I had about the remote start and about his truck!
A+ service and he told me if I ever need any help with the remote start to contact him.

I would 100% recommend him as and the product he supplies. It’s super easy to install too, I watched him knock out the install in about 10-15 minutes.

Wow, nice. That cell option sounds sweet.

@kwakamole, I've got the long range (2 way) remote and I love the fact that I can press it from the dressing room at the Hockey rink, and come out to a warm vehicle, as it's cold as hell here in the winter.
