I haven’t had good experience with aftermarket headlights. Like to hear same input before buying these.

Spyder recently released the black version listed above but I can’t seem to find any info on retailers (where to get them) or reviews on them as well

from what they cost you can buy quality parts and do a retrofit on your OEM housings or spend about 400 on parts along with an aftermarket set and build them. IMO

I’ve already changed from oem. I have depo at the moment but the lens is deteriorating pretty quickly, which is why I’m trying to change.

If the depo lens is already deteriorating I wouldn't expect the tacomabeast ones to last any longer. Part of the reason the OEM lenses are so expensive is because of the material quality.

I know toyota had some trouble with crappy lenses back around the time that your truck was built but they got some better material since then. The ones on my 15 are very sharp. If you sourced some replacement housings through the dealer for your 09 you could retrofit them to the bulbs you want and the lenses would last longer ( IMO)

Ya my 08 had trouble. The lens cracked and where the drl started to burn the lens.
Tbh part of the reason I want these are the drl. The projector always seemed like a better idea than the reflector but I’ve never had the projector to prove which is better. And the lens peeling is just an excuse to get new lights. Also where the spring that holds the bulb is getting worn, as well as I’m getting moisture now, I’ve siliconded when I first got them but not worth taking off to reapply
I’m not opposed to get the spyder if the quality of light is equal to the depo. But they do seem cheaper than tacoma beast. Which would let me get new fogs

From what I've read and @crashnburn80 may chime in, the drl burning the lense was cleared up with the new materials.

All the concerns you mentioned about the spring breaking, the moisture, etc would be avoided with OE units. Not to rub it in too much but you get what you pay for.

Patience young grasshopper. Don't go cheap just to get headlights and fogs at the same time. Get something that will work well for the long term

Ya I understand but the oe kinda look dull which is why I’m looking at these and I’m not looking to do a retrofit on a oe housing. If anything might put hid if I can get a decent kit and a good walkthrough

I was also looking at the pro tuning lab hid kit and housings. Would really like to hear some reviews or suggestions.

Correct, the TSB updated lenses resolved the DRL melting issue. They are available in smoked chrome for an subtle more aggressive look.

Here is a copy paste from the headlight thread:
    OEM 2005-2011 smoked headlights:
These are like the Pro lights, but came on select Sport models. These are available loaded with bulbs, and unloaded w/o bulbs, saving $60 off the set . These part numbers are for the unloaded housings. These are the updated TSB version of the lights that do not have the melting DRL issue.
    Right #81130-04173
    Left #81170-04173

If you have access to supplies and equipment to spray some automotive clear on those cheap aftermarket headlights I'd say get whatever lights you want.

Im not sure if you have tried this before. I had clearcoat leftover. Results did not include any additional buffing which I did later on in the process

I have these headlights. Light out put was better than I though I'd get out of them. I honestly don't think there as bright but they are very close. I think they just don't shine as far as the stock ones do. But I love the look of the headlights. Updated the whole front end of my truck. 20180807_175115.jpg

Also to other people that have these does your passenger side assembly not fit in as well as the driver side?

I bought them from TB. They are also the ones from spyder. Also comes in spyder packaging. There the same. And idk what bulb they are. There the ones that comes with them. When I bought them there was thread a while ago about them and a guy said you can buy new bulbs from a local auto parts store if you want them to be brighter then the factory headlights.
