Bird dawg (?) Mirror riser CAUTIONARY tale

Peel the backing off and let it hang out loosely to the side and after you affix the riser, pull the backing strip out and press. I did this twice, once on my old windshield(unrelated chip/crack on the driver side) and current new windshield.

The immryo bracket is mounted the same way with 3m tape at the top.

 

At this point there would be no way in hell I'd use it now. I'll just glue another foot in place. Eventually I'll replace the windshield.

 

The ImMrYo bracket in my 2010 was installed in either 2012 or 2013 and has never presented an issue.

 

My mirror mount came off and left a crater in the windshield as well. But it happened cause of my subwoofer lolol

 

The riser causes stress on the mounting point in the glass because of the extra length ,that has happened too more than a few guys,glad I kept mine factory.

 

Yerp, precisely why I'm putting a "foot" in place to remove that lever action.

Same here. I don't even remove it when I adjust the mirror. I never liked the idea of a ram mount on the mirror because I don't want it to become a projectile in a collision.

 

Pulling down or away on the mirror while adjusting it certainly exacerbates that strain. I've always applied light pressure against the mirror when I adjust it, but then again, I doubt a lot of people do that and with other products you don't see this sort of issue. Or at least it's not been well publicized like this.

 

I've had two of my Tacomas with the riser and haven't had any issues(knock on wood). However, I will put some double sided tape on next time I'm plunkin' around in the truck.

EDIT** Forgot to mention that I was in a bad enough accident to deploy the air bags and write off the truck. Mirror was still attached to the windshield.

 

Ive had mine for 5 or 6 years. I like it. I also have their ram ball mount which I really like.

 

Same, I hang my hand-held GPS from mine when hunting.

 

In the same boat as others. Anyone know a good windshield replacement place in San Diego? Gotta wait til next paycheck :/

 

The good news is that the epoxy used to hold on the mount is wayyyy stronger than everything else around it.

But yeah keep any excess weight off that mount. Don't be hanging necklaces and masks and ID badges from it.. that stuff just obscures your vision anyway, and it'll slap you in the face if you ever get in a wreck.
