Interesting. Anyone else run their AC on fresh air instead of recirculated?

I live in South Louisiana.... Hot and Humid! My AC works great. It might not cool quite as well in traffic, but I never get warm.

In 95* - 110* heat I would rate my A/C just above average in cooling, while I rate my 4Runner excellent. Or on a scale of 1-10 I’d give an 7.5 to the taco and a 10 to the 4Runner.

Having said that, my warranty has expired so if I had to repair/replace the Freon I would flush the system, replace 0’ rings and go with the tried and true 134A as it works great and is proven safe.

No way I would justify the price of the new Freon as I think the change over to the new one is a travesty based on greed, nuff said

    Cheers!

Took my 2018 Tacoma in for its first service at 10k miles a couple weeks ago. Had the most recent tranny TSBs done. Mentioned to my service advisor that my other half mentioned the AC has not been working very well and may be exhibiting some of the same symptoms as our 16 did right before the blower motor failed. When I went to pick it up, they said they were going to order the kit from Toyota to perform T-SB-0063-18 on it. I have not seen the TSB, but from what I was told Toyota eliminated an electrical fan that would keep air flowing through the condenser on the third gen. As a result, when stopped and not moving the AC does not function as well since there is no air moving over the condenser. I was told they are going to install an electrical fan to help with this. I was told this TSB is about an $1,800.00 job. Again, I am just telling what I remember them saying and may not have everything correct. I think this is a fairly new TSB that some people may not be aware of.

Can someone please attach T-SB-0063-18 if you have access to it?

Sadly, the TSB is covered on the 36k warranty and im out of it... the List of TSB's shows the parts needed and the exact procedure. Its like 60+ pages. Maybe ill order all the parts and just do it myself

People please check your filter door in the glove box. Mine wasn’t as cold as it should it be. So I opened my filter box and noticed my filter wasn’t placed correctly and the door with the gasket was not closed properly. Once every thing was correct it blew colder and stronger.plus at most it took about 4min to complete.

While you are in there, check the white plastic blower fan that has been breaking on certain models as well. Cracks will be very apparent. It sits directly below the in cabin filter @Dallas_Zero mentioned

"R1234yf has cooling performance that is similar to R134a but not quite as good. It is about 5 percent less efficient than R134a"

Well I'm getting my truck back today, but they said everything checks out with the AC. So I guess I'm stuck with just a cool AC. lol

The good news is they did do the transmission reflash. So I guess there's that. lol

I have the manual AC control and one thing I noticed using my AC is that it cools the cab a lot better if the selector switch is set for the upper vents only compared to having the switch on both the upper and lower floor vents.

Do you guys think having the ac blower motor replaced per the recently released Special Service Campaign J0N - Remedy Notice Certain 2016 - 2017 Model Year Tacoma HVAC Blower Motor, or would having TSB-0063-18 Lack of A/C Performance at Idle in High Ambient Temperatures potentially help resolve my issues?

Either some of you don’t notice or there’s something wrong with mine. It blows cold, but in comparison to a loaner 18 Corolla I had, Tacoma definitely struggles in the AC department

Mine is superb. It's 95+ with 100% humidity everyday here and I almost always have to turn my AC down before I get to my destination. Max AC creates an icebox regardless of outside temp in my truck. Now my commute is a solid 25 minutes so it doesn't create the ice box instantly but I'd say within 10 minutes.

    22k miles 2 years old.

My AC has never been icy. If it's turned all the way up and on recirc and I'm moving down the highway it's fine but if idling it is just slightly cool. Will keep the truck from getting HOT but that's about it right now and it does seem to be less cool than it was last year so I am planning to get it looked at on my 17

I wonder if this TSB would resolve your issue:

Sure looks like this would correct the low AC output at idle.
