Hes saying they didn't offer a mechanical LSD in your year (hence no need for the additive). It would be the traction control computer using the ABS sensors to determine wheel slip, and applying the brake to that one wheel. Therefore (in theory) sending power to the wheel with grip instead.

I cant confirm one way or the other, but I thought 2nd gens only came with an open rear (+ traction control) or the E-locker option

Thank you for the clarification, I knew i should have looked farther into it. I just assumed if the technical data on the model year said LSD then i needed the additive. Its kind of deceiving in my opinion, but I am new to Toyota as of this year. TW saves the day again, return label printed. Now all I need is my 24mm socket to show up so i can get started on this project.

@Rick_Taco Im sure someone else will chime in to confirm one way or another if they actually offered a true (mechanical) LSD in 2013. Not sure why they would say Limited Slip Differential if it isn't..

The only tacomas that need the LSD additive are the 05-08 sports (and some SR5) that have a true mechanical LSD. All the later years are electronic like SR-71A said.

I bought mine new, and it said electronic LSD on the window sticker. I was new to Toyota's so I assumed it was still a real limited slip...I was wrong :(

It uses the brakes to created limited slipping of the spinning tire. There’s nothing inside the differential that does it so no need for the LS additive. They quit using an actual mechanical LS inside the diff in 2009.

Why? I've never understood why people get all shy about money on a truck modding site where most of us spend thousands of dollars on our rigs. Unless someone is asking for your W-2 or social security number you're fine. And dont even get me started about blurring out your license plates, good god. :annoyed: /Rant :bananadead:

Took her on a road trip Monday. Traveled some DEEP East Texas backroads on the way to Marshall that were so far off the beaten path that the banjo music was too scared to be in. Took a few more on the way home and thought I saw the banjo player running back toward the highway. Got back to the highway a couple hours later and realized I never stopped for any photos, I was having too much fun.

Today I picked up a little something and brought it home.

I spoke with the banjo player (cousin of mine); said he liked your rig and wanted to talk shop. You don't happen to play the guitar or want to go canoeing, do you?

Agreed. People are freaks. They worry about the craziest shot and meanwhile they transact daily with a device that tracks everything they do.

Agree so much that lift is critical for the long beds. In my opinion, they definitely need to be level, at a minimum, if not a couple inches in the front, and and 1-1.5 inches in the rear. Widening the stances helps a lot too.

Nice!! If you run into any questions during the install shoot me a PM and Ill try to respond. I've been meaning to do a detailed write up on the install process for this beast! The provided instructions are slightly.. vague haha
