Leadville Intel...that has changed since being spoken of yesterday.

Mt Massive Wilderness no longer requires a permit, it did up until just recently. The far trailhead i was at still says it does on the sign but FS said they hadn't been up there to change it yet. (Changed within a few weeks)

That same road (Halfmoon Creek) which takes you up to the Champion Mill. There is a green gate below that mine, and next to an old cabin or two. That is technically where the trail ends (as seen on Leadville MVUM).
Beyond that is private property. There is one of the small no motor vehicles before the gate (hard to see). FS said that is correct.. Trail ends at the gate, it's private property after. But based on the fact that the owner doesn't even have signs up anywhere... That's the vibe that i got, the property owner could tell you to leave, which won't likely happen. Do as you wish with the info, my happy ass hiked from a mile or so before the gate and survived ambush from peak predators.

That's frustrating! A couple years ago when I hiked mt massive no permit was required. Glad it's not required anymore.

I thought that cabin from yesterday looked familiar.

I don't recall seeing any no vehicle or trespassing signs, however, that was 3 years ago.

You guys and your off-road fun. Meanwhile we are over here enjoying a little hiking. Gem lake in Estes park was a good trail.

Yeah it's never been part of the trail as far as i know. But the no motor vehicle sign is almost hidden, and there's no other signage other than on the cabins themselves off to the side. And i don't think the gate can even be latched closed. So..the property owners don't seem to care (other than keeping people away from the cabins that are marked).

Only reason i knew was someone getting blasted for driving up it and posting on fb. And the write-up on Trailsoffroad.com mentions it as well.

hard decisions.... where to camp for work tomorrow between bv and keystone. Thinking Kaufman ridge, but they may be too close to @Stig for comfort

Hopefully all the labor dayers aren’t out in full force yet.

A small handful of select mods.
I would go Keystone area above Montezuma this time of year. As the temps begin to dip, the BV stays a bit warmer later in the year.

As the temps drop so does my battery in the RV at night. Definitely need to upgrade the battery here shortly. RV life is expensive!

I could when the temps dropped to about 50. When they dropped to 40's the battery would be at the recharge/ low status. This is keeping the trailer at about 72-73 degrees for the little one. The furnace kicks on about 10-15mins every hour. It's a group 24 battery so not meant to run much.

Only have a single 24? Strange on such a high dollar trailer.

I'm going dual 24 sized deep cycle with that harbor Freight Solar setup on my tent trailer, it might have to run a fridge if I get another one to keep out of my 4runner at camp but mainly for heat overnight.

With the loads of a setup that big you might look in series 6v batteries and a robust solar setup (more than 100w like I'm going to run). That way you could pull a movie or 2 plus heat all night.

Any camping recommendations for Park County this weekend? No fire ban there for those who don't know. Ideally would like to get away from the crowds so 4x4 access would be better. I was looking at some campgrounds to the west of Alma but who knows how full it will be.

I have the same question but for Chaffee county around Salida area, and with hiking access to some fishing. Currently scoping out Billings lake, but with the North Fork Campground there I'm guessing it will attract the crowd I'm trying to distance from. Hit up trailsoffroad.com to find some routes and info.

Are looking for dispersed camping, or fee camping?

Handy fire ban map for those who don't know - https://fusiontables.googleusercont...106.05593609375002&t=1&z=7&l=col4&y=2&tmplt=3

The good news is since school is back in, traffic looks a lot less horrible on Sunday, so finding camping spots should be available.

Up mosquito has plenty, weston pass has plenty, trout creek has a bunch... Take your pick.

Salida has a spot nw from Poncha springs... Nw of the corner of 285/50. Its usually more packed since its easily accessible and a hiking area, but some cool spots if you get near the ledge.
